WARDELL, 62, was mounted policeman William G. Wardell, 62m of Tysens Lane, New Dorp, a member of the New York City Police Department 29 years, died Friday (2 November, 1979) in Staten Island Hospital, following a month-long illness. Born on Staten Island, Mr. Wardell lived much of his life in Westerleigh before moving to Tysens Lane 15 years ago. He had been a member of the Police Department's Mounted Unit his entire tenure on the force, and during his career patrolled such areas as Clove Lakes, Silver Lake and LaTourette Parks. He retired in 1978. Mr Wardell served with the Army's Signal Corps during the World War II, and had been stationed in Europe. He is survived by his wife, Frances: a daughter, Claudia DePutron of Great Kills: a sister Phylis Martin of Westerleigh, and two grandchildren. The funeral will be tomorrow from the Hanley Funeral Home, New Dorp, with a 10 a.m. mass in St. Patirick's R.C. Church, Richmond. Burial will be in Moravian Cemetaery. -- Alfred W.
