Together with Biographies and Portraits of all the Presidents of the United States. New York and Chicago; Chapman Publishing Co., 1895 Warren Blanchard The village of Spring Valley has no citizen who more worthily represents its business interests than the subject of this sketch, who was born in Rockland County, educated in its schools, and in the opening years of manhood took a place among its energetic agriculturists and business men. He is proprietor of a flourmill here, and is also successfully engaged as a dealer in grain, feed and agricultural implements. During the nine years that he has been in business here, he has established his name as one of the energetic and efficient citizens of the place, and in addition to his private interests he has officiated as Town Clerk for upwards of three years. In 1895 he resigned this position and shortly afterward was appointed Supervisor, which position he is now filling to the satisfaction of the entire county, and already excellent roads are being constructed under his energetic supervision. The parents of our subject, James and Eliza (Brooks) Blanchard, were natives of Rockland County, and the former was engaged in agricultural pursuits and as a dealer in wood. He died at the age of sixty-five years. His wife, who survives him, make her home on the old farm. Their family consisted of nine children, namely: Emma, who is with her mother, to whose welfare she ministers in her declining years; Kate, who lives in this county; Mary, residing in Newark, N.J.; John, a farmer of this county; Samuel; Oliver R., a physician in Jersey City, N.J.; Warren, of this sketch; Sarah, whos ehome is in Suffern; and James B., a resident of Middletown. The seventh in order of birth among the nine children of the family, Warren Blanchard was born November 27, 1852, on the old homestead, where he remained until twenty-two years of age, meantime acquiring a fair education in the neighboring district schools. His work on the home farm made him familiar with agricultural pursuits, which he understood thoroughly, as indeed he did every enterprise which he undertook. In 1886 he purchased a flourmill on Main Street, of E. A. Cooper, and has since built up a large and profitable trade, having by effective management increased the magnitude of the business. At the age of twenty-two Mr. Blanchard married Anna A. Blauvelt, a member of one of the prominent families of this county. They are the parents of three sons, Harry L., Frank D. and Floyd, aged, respectively, nine, eight and seven years. From his youth Mr. Blanchard has been deeply interested in political questions, and since he was entitled to the right of suffrage he has cast his ballot with the Republican party. He is a firm believer in the principles of this political organization and can give good reasons for his advocacy of its platform. In local politics he has been influential and active, and at the present time he is holding the position of Supervisor of Rockland County, as above stated. Socially he is identified with the Masonic order and holds membership in Ramapo Lodge of Suffern.
