He walked from North Fairfield Parish (now Weston) to the outskirts of Long Island in August 1776. His regiment (4th) lead by Lt Col Ichabod Lewis waited for the command from George Washington to join the Battle of Long Island. Washington was losing, he retreated across the East River during the night. My great grandfather did not fight in this battle, he returned home to marry my great grandmother Abigail Lacey.
