Y., on the banks of the Hudson river. His father Ananias removed with his family to Washington county, N. Y., in 1813, where he lived eleven years, then coming to Crawford county, Pa. The son lived eight years with his brother, Jeremiah Phillips, in Noble county, Ohio, who came in 1822 and settled about half a mile from the farm where Ananias now lives. In 1825 he took up his residence upon the farm, building a log house, and moved his parents into it. In 1854 the present house was built. He has passed his life as a farmer and stock breeder and dealer, paying some attention of late years to dairying. At one time during his life he was for about two years on the farm of the famous John Brown, afterward known as John Brown of Assawattamie. He was married November, 1848, to Julia A. Gale, daughter of John Gale, of Plattsburg, Clinton county, N. Y.
