Varnum Battles engaged in: Harlem in which he was wounded Residence of soldier at enlistment: Enlisted at Greenwich, Long Island Date of application for pension: June 10, 1818. His cl(aim) was al(lowed). Age at date of application: 75 years Remarks: Soldier married at North Kingston, Washington County, Rhode Island in early 1779, 1780 or 1781 Eunice Potter and died at Edinburgh, NY April 23, 1824 or April 26, 1825. She died at Maumee, Ohio November 18 or February 26, 1846, children Stephen, Benjamin, Sarah, Mary Bucher, Andrew and Samuel C. who was the only surviving child in 1857 and a resident of Jerusalem, Yates Co., NY aged 65 years. ****** New York 18773 Job Albro In Saratoga in the State of New York, who was a private in the Regiment commanded by Colonel J.M. Varnum of the Rhode Island line, for the term of 1 year in 1776. Inscribed on the Roll of New York, at the rate of 8 dollars per month, to commence the 10th of June 1818. Certificate of Pension issued the 23rd of October 1822 and sent to H.W. Palmer, Esq., Ballstow? Spa, NY. Arrears to the 4th of September 1822 $406.60 Semi anl all'ce ending March 23 48.00 50 months $454.60 Revolutionary Claim Act 18th March 1818 1 May 1820 ****** State of New York Saratoga County On this tenth day of June 1818 before me the subscriber one of the judges of the Court of Common Pleas in and for the County of Saratoga and State of New York personally appeared Jobe Albro of the town of Edinburgh County of Saratoga and State of New York, aged seventy five years who being by me first duly sworn according to law doth on his oath make the following declaration in order to obtain the provision made by the late act of Congress entitled An act to provide for certain persons engaged in the land and naval service of the United States in the revolutionary war that the said Jobe Albro enlisted in the town of Greenwich in the State of Rhode Island in the Company commanded by Capt. Archibald Crary in a Regiment commanded by Col. Varnum of the Rhode Island line as a private in the spring of 1775 for the term of one year and that he continued in service during the term of his enlistment and was honorable (sic) discharged and further saith that he again enlisted in B?? Hill in the State of Massachusetts in the spring of 1776 for the term of one year in the Company commanded by Capt. Elijah Lewis in the Regiment and line aforesaid and that he faithfully served out the term of his enlistment and was honorable (sic) discharged in the spring of 1777 at Fishkill in the State of New York and that he was in the Battle of Harlem Heights and further saith that he is in reduced circumstances and stands in need of the assistance of his country for support. his Jobe X Albro mark Sworn to and declared before me this day and year aforesaid. Judge ****** State of New York County of Saratoga On this twenty eighth day of August 1822 personally appeared in open Court, in the Court of Common Pleas of the said County, the same being a Court of Record for the said County, proceeding according to the course of the common law with a jurisdiction unlimited in point of amount keeping a record of its proceedings and having the power of fine and imprisonment, Jobe Albro, aged seventy nine years, resident in the said County, in the State aforesaid, who being first duly sworn according to law, doth, on his oath, declare that he served in the Revolutionary War as stated in the original declaration hereto annexed. That his original declaration was made on or about the tenth day of June 1818. And I solemnly swear that I was a resident citizen of the United States on the 18th day of March 1818; and that I have not since that time, by gift, sale, or in any manner disposed of my property or any part thereof, with intent thereby so to diminish it, as to bring myself within the provisions of an act of Congress entitled "An act to provide for certain persons engaged in the land and naval service of the United States, in the Revolutionary War", passed on the 18th day of March 1818; and that I have not nor has any person in trust for me, any property or securities, contracts or debts due to me; nor have I any income other than what is contained in the schedule hereto annexed; and by me subscribed. 1. This deponent further says that he has a wife aged about seventy nine years both feeble and infirm. 2. This deponent had his arm broke in the Revolutionary War by a musket ball. (illegible) Daughter who has lost her husband lives with him, and is unable to support himself and family without charity. Sworn to and declared on the 2nd day of August 1822 in open court before me. his Jobe X Albro mark M??? Palmer Clerk H.W. Palmer Deputy Clerk of the Court of Common Pleas of the County of Saratoga do hereby certify that the foregoing oath and the schedule thereto annexed, are truly copied from the record of the said Court; and I do further certify, that it is the opinion of the said Court that the total amount in value of the property exhibited in the aforesaid schedule is only eight dollars and fifty cents. In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand, and affixed the seal of the said court, on this 31st day of August 1822. H.W. Palmer, Deputy Clerk of the Court of Common Pleas of the County of Saratoga ****** On this 2nd day of December A.D. 1857, before me, a judge of the County of Yates in the State of New York personally appeared Samuel Albro, aged 65 years, a resident of the town of Jerusalem in the County of Yates and State of New York who being first duly sworn according to law declares that he is the only surviving child of Job Albro and Eunice Albro. That his father the said Job Albro was a private in the Revolutionary War and was in the service of the United States in said war, two years and over. That said service was rendered in the State of Rhode Island. And that he received a pension therefore, for several years and until the time of his death. That he died in the town of Edenburgh (sic), in the County of Saratoga and State of New York on or about the 26th day of April, A.D. 1825 where he resided for several years before his death and up to the time of its occurrence. That he left surviving him the aforesaid Eunice Albro his widow. That the said Job Albro and the said Eunice Albro were married in the town of North Windsor or vicinity in Washington County in the State of Rhode Island and it is believed that they were married by Elder Brown, a Baptist Elder or clergyman, sometime in the year 1780 or 1781. That the said Eunice Albro died at Maumee City in the State of Ohio on or about the 26th day of November A.D. 1846 and that she remained a widow from the time of the death of her said husband the said Job Albro until the time of her death and never married again. That she left surviving her the following named children, to wit, Mary Bucher, and himself the declarant and none other. And that there are now surviving only himself the said Samuel Albro and and none other of said children. That the said Eunice Albro was entitled to a pension on account of the aforesaid services of her said husband the said Job Albro but that she never received a pension nor applied for one. And that no claim has ever before been presented for such pension by her, or any of her children on her account or for any of the benefits to which she was entitled. He makes this declaration for the purpose of obtaining the benefits to which he may be entitled as the only surviving child of the said Eunice Albro and to which she was entitled under and by virtue of the act of Congress of July 4th, 1836 and subsequent acts. Briggs Yates County Judge ****** State of New York County of Yates On this 3rd day of December 1857, before me personally came David Thurston to me known, aged 65 years, a resident of the town of Jerusalem, in the County of Yates, in the State of New York, who being by me duly sworn according to law deposes and says that he was well acquainted with Job Albro and Eunice Albro for many years before their death, and from his childhood and resided near them and was in familiar intercourse with their family and often at their house. That has has often seen their Family Bible, and that it contained a record of the marriage of said Job and Eunice Albro, and that he has often seen and read the said Record. That according to said record the said Job and Eunice Albro were married in the town of North Kingston, in the State of Rhode Island in the year 1780 or 1781. That the said Job Albro informed him the deponent that he was in the service of the United States in the Revolutionary War and that he the said Job and the said Eunice Albro were married before the close of his land service. That the name of the said Eunice Albro before her marriage was Eunice Potter. That the said Job Albro was a pensioner of the United States for sometime before and up to the time of his death and that he was knowing of his drawing and receiving said pension until the time of his death. That the said Job Albro died in the town of Edenburgh (sic) in Saratoga County in the State of New York on or about the 26th day of April 1825 and that he was present at this funeral. That the said Eunice Albro did not marry again, but remained a widow from the time of the death of her said husband until the time of her death. That she died in Maumee City in the State of Ohio in or about the 26th day of November 1846 and that he recollects well the occurrence and was informed of the same immediately after it occurred. That the said Job and Eunice Albro had six children, viz. Stephen, Benjamin, Sarah, Andrew, Mary and Samuel C. Albro. That the two of said children died when quite young and that the others grew up to be men and women and had families but that all of them are now dead except for the said Samuel C. Albro and that he is the same person who has applied for the pension benefits due on account of the said Eunice Albro as widow of said Job Albro. That he the deponent was present at the time of the burning of the dwelling house in which the said Job and Eunice Albro and family resided and that the aforesaid Family Bible was at the time and on that occasion destroyed by said fire with other effects of said family. And he further deposes and says that he is a disinterested witness. Vail before whom the foregoing Deposition was taken, was, at the time of taking the same, a Justice of the Peace in and for the said County and State aforesaid, duly sworn and authorized to take the same, and that the signature thereto, purporting to be his, is genuine.
