Born in Seneca county, New York in 1846, where he spent his boyhood, he enlisted with the Union colors in early manhood, being a member of Company F, 197th Ohio Infantry, with which organization he served with honor. On February 17, 1871, he was united in marriage to Jennie Gifford of Madison, Ohio, at Springfield, Pennsylvania and in 1888 they came to Iowa settling on a farm east of town where they resided until sixteen years ago, then moving to Maquoketa, which has since been their home. Mr. Miller was a member of the Methodist Episcopal church and A. W. Drips Post, Grand Army of the Republic and his citizenship in the community has been highly honorable and his loyalty to it is pronounced. His devoted companion in life passed away about two years ago, since which time he had been with his children, who will keenly miss a kind father. He is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Bert Isbell of Maquoketa, Mrs. Will Taylor of Savanna, Mrs. Willis Berryman of Stanley, Iowa, and one son Elvin of near Maquoketa, and also four grandchildren. The funeral was held from the late home Thursday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock, Rev. F. C. Worcester of the M. E. Church officiating, with interment in Mt.
