Holy Bible in Dutch, Dordrecht, Pieter en Jacob Keur, 1736. It contains the records of the Bleecker family to John N. Bleecker, 1776. It has descended in the direct line to Robert Fanshawe Bloodgood, of New York City, the great-great-great-grandson of the original owner. Being anxious to know when or at what time my Great Grand Father left his native Country, from which of the Seven United Provinces, the City or Town he came from &ca, &ca, for this purpose, I applied to my kinsman, John R. Bleecker, who informed me, that it appeared from entries amongst the papers of his late Grand Father John R. Bleecker, our ancestor Jan Janse Bleecker, had arrived in this country Unmarried in the year 1656, that he came from the Province of Overijssel and Town of Meppel. And I have been informed by near relations, that he married shortly after his arrival, either in the now Dutches or Ulster Counties, in the Family of the Rutzies, now nearly extinct, that he died at the age of about ninety or ninety two years, that he left four sons and four daughters, namely Johannis my Grand Father; Rutger, Nicholas and Henderick, the two last died unmarried, Jannitie Married to Johannis Glen,. Catherine married to Abraham Cuyler, Margaret married to Henderick Ten Eyck, And Rachael died unmarried in an advanced age. from the above it is to be seen, that all those who at present bear the name of Bleecker in this place, New York &c. are the descendents of my Great Grand Father, from the branches of his two sons Johannis and Rutger. Albany 16th August 1809 John N. Bleecker. For the information of my Children, it appears proper to mention, That I was born on the 22nd of August, 1739, which is to be seen m my late Parents Family Bible in possession of my late Brother Henry's Widow; but as an Act Passed in May 1751 for regulating the commencement of the year, by which the old Style was abolished and the new Style established, this was done by sinking eleven Days in September 1752, hence my Age, instead of the 22nd August is to 2nd Septr. Albany 16th August 1809. N.B. It appears from entries made by my Great Grand Father . . . Jan Janse Bleecker which I have seen since the above was wrote, that instead of his Marriage in Dutches or Ulster Counties, was married on the 2nd Jany. 1667 to Margarrieta Rathzeat Albany. 17th September 1812.
