Alden, Counsel to the Governor Carlos Coolidge Alden, Counsel to the Governor, was born in Wilmington, Illinois, On June 4, 1866. He is a lineal descendant of John Alden, the Puritan. Educated first in Bangor, Maine, and later in Ne York City, he received the degree of LL.B. in 1892 from the New York University Law School, that of LL.M. in 1893, and J.D. (honorary) in 1904 from the same institution. He was admitted to the practice of law in 1893, and from 1893 until 1904 he was in active practice in New York City, first in association with Austin Abbott and later as a member of the law firm of Alden & Carpenter. In 1904 he was appointed Dean of the Buffalo Law School, and held this position when appointed Counsel to the Governor. In collaboration with Austin Abbott, he prepared several case books for law school use. Mr. Alden is the author of Abbott's Forms of Pleading, 2 vols., second edition (1898), (1900); of the Hand Book of the New York Code of Civil Procedure (1901); Abbott's Practice and Forms, 2 vols., second edition (1907). His residence is 27 Ashland Avenue, Buffalo, New York; he has law offices at 60 Wall Street, New York, and 933 Ellicott Square, Buffalo.
