Brackenridge began the practice of civil engineering on the surveys and construction of the elevated railway systems in New York city and was engaged on that work from 1876 to 1880. From 1880 to 1882 he was Resident Engineer in charge of surveys for and construction of part of the Western Division of the Delaware, Lackawanna & Western Railway. From 1882 to 1883 he was engaged on preliminary surveys and location of a proposed railroad from New York to Boston. This railroad was not constructed. From 1883 to 1885 he was principal Assistant Engineer of the Brooklyn Elevated Railway in city of Brooklyn. From 1885 to 1889 he was engaged by the Long Island Railroad Company on plans for its proposed rapid transit systems, and improvements and betterments of the Long Island Railroad system. During the year 1889 he attended the international Convention of Civil, Mechanical, and Mining Engineers, held in London, England, and spent the balance of the same year in the investigation of important en gineering works on the Continent. From 1890 to 1891 he was employed by the Railroad Commissioner of the State of Connecticut in connection with the elimination of grade crossings in the city of Waterbury, Cone. During the same period he reported on several railway propositions in the Eastern and Southern States. From 1891 to 1904 he was engaged continuously by the Niagara Falls Power Company and its allied companies as Engineer in charge of the water power development at Niagara Falls, N. Y. and also acted as Consulting Engineer during the same period for the Canadian Niagara Power Company, Niagara Falls, Ontario. During the period from 1891 to 1904 he was engaged in general engineering pract ice, reporting on various engineering projects, many of which have been constructed after his designs and under his direction. He was appointed member of the Advisory Board of Consulting Engineers for the Improvement of the State Canals by Governor Odell in February, 1904. At present he holds that posit ion and is conducting a general engineering practice at Niagara Falls, N. Y.
