Lyon Company, 1909 Robert Earl of Herkimer, the representative of the Democratic party in the Highway Commission, was born in 1868, a nephew of Robert Earl, former Judge of the Court of Appeals. Mr. Earl was educated at St. John's Military School at Manlius and at Union College. He is a member of the Sigma Phi Fraternity and of the Free and Accepted Masons. He entered the Herkimer National Bank's employment when a young man and later became a manager of an estate. He was a delegate to the Democratic State Convention in 1900 when John B. Stanchfield was nominated for Governor. With about 140 others Mr. Earl voted for Bird S. Coler, who was defeated for the nomination then and was nominated for Governor two years later. He voted for Lewis Stuyvesant Chanler, the Democratic candidate for Governor in 1908.
