Lyon Company, 1909 George Curtis Treadwell, Military Secretary, has been appointed to that position by three Governors of the State, Governor Black, Governor Roosevelt, and Governor Hughes. He is descended from English ancestors who settled in Ipswich, Mass., in 1630. His grandfather found the fur house of George C. Treadwell & Company. His father, George H. Treadwell, was a soldier of the Civil War, enlisting as a private and ending his military career as a major. Major Treadwell later was a Civil Service Commissioner of this State and Department Commander of the Grand Army of the Republic. George Curtis Treadwell was educated in hart's School at Farmington, Conn.; in Sedgwick's School at Great Barrington, Conn., and finally in the Sheffield Scientific School, of Yale University. Colonel Treadwell graduated from Yale in the class of 1893. He then entered upon busines slife as Secretary and Director of the George C. Treadwell Company. He continued with that Company up to 189t. For ten years afterward he was Secretary and Director of the Economic Power and Construction Company, and since 1905 he has been connected as Secretary, Treasurer, and Director with the Citizens' Economic Power Company. He also as acted as President and Director of the Art Students League of Albany, N.Y., and as a trustee of estates. Colonel Treadwell enlisted in the New York State National Guard as a private in the Third Signal Corps. In 1897 he was appointed a Colonel and Military Secretary by Governor Black and was assigned to important missions, tours of inspection of camps and military hospitals. Governor Roosevelt reappointed Colonel Treadwell as Military Secretary, making the first precedent of this nature. Colonel Treadwell is a member of the Military Order of the Loyal Legion, of the Veteran Association and of the Thrid Signal Corps, N.G.N.Y., of the Military Service Institution of the United States, of the Order of Founders and Patriots of the United States, of the Society of Colonial Wars, the Society of the Sons of the Revolution, and an Associate Companion of Lewis O. Morris Post No. 121, Grand Army of the Republic. Colonel Treadwell also is a member of the Yale Club, the University Glee Club of New York city, of the Yale Alumni Association of Eastern New York, and of the University Club of Albany, of the Albany Country Club, of the Albany Chamber of Commerce, and of numerous other organizations. At the beginning of 1907 Governor Hughes appointed him Military Secretary.
