Deed conveys land in West Union to Betsy NORTON, widow of Hiram NORTON, and their children: James NORTON, Lucinda NORTON, Seba NORTON, Diadema NORTON, Ann NORTON, Maria NORTON, Hiram NORTON Jr., Jacob NORTON, Nancy NORTON, Daniel NORTON and Luther NORTON. This indenture made the sixteenth day of October One thousand eight hundred and Sixty Between Philip Kearney of Camson Hudson County in the State of New Jersey by Edward Kearney of the City of New York his Attorney by virtue of a Power of Attorney recorded in the Clerks Office of the County of Steuben of the first part and Betsy Norton Widow of Hiram Norton late of West Union in the County of Steuben and State of New York Deceased of the second part and James Norton, Lucinda Norton, Seba Norton, Diadema Norton, Ann Norton, Maria Norton, Hiram Norton, Jacob Norton, Nancy Norton, Daniel Norton, & Luther Norton Children and heirs at law of the said Hiram Norton Deceased of the the [sic] third part Witnesseth that the party of the first part for and in consideration of One Dollar to him in hand paid by the party of the second part have sold and by these presents do grant sell and convey unto the said party of the second part, the one equal undivided third part (the whole into three equal parts to be divided [)] of all that certain piece or parcel of land situate lying and being in the Town of West Union in the County of Steuben and State of New York known and distinguished as the east part of Lot number Sixteen (16) of the Watts tract in the middle west division of township number One in the Sixth range of townships in the County of Steuben and bounded as follows: On the north, east, and South by the respective North, East and South lines of said lot number Sixteen, and on the west by the west fifty acres of said lot Sixteen. Conveyed by deed to Benonia Young, hereby conveying in said east part above described Fifty one acres as surveyed by James Read the same more or less. Together with the appurtenances there unto belonging. To have and to hold the said One equal undivided third part of the said land unto the party of the second part for and during the term of her life. And this Indenture further Witnesseth that the said party of the first part for and in consideration of the Sum of Two hundred fifty-four Dollars to him in hand paid by the parties of the third part the receipt whereof is acknowledged have sold and by these presents doth grant sell and convey unto the said parties of the third part their heirs and assigns the piece or parcel of land within described and all the Estate [-] and interest of the said Philip Kearney [-]. To have and to hold the said land unto the said parties of the third part their heirs and assigns forever as Tenants in Common and not as joint tenants in manner following. That is to say as to Two equal undivided third parts of the said land unto the said parties of the third part their heirs and assigns forever and as to one other undivided third part of the said land unto the said parties of the third part their heirs and assigns forever as tenants in common and not as joint tenants from and after the death of the said Betsy Norton. And the said party of the first part in consideration of [- -] doth covenant with the said parties of the second and third parts to Warrant & Defend unto whom the said land hereby conveyed their heirs and assigns the land conveyed against every person claiming the same or any part thereof Subject to all taxes imposed subsequent to the 1 day of January 1859.
