Application For Widow's Pension
   May 22, 1899: Augusta M. Reynolds, now Austin, of Penn Yan, Yates Co., 
applies for pension as widow of Nelson Reynolds
   Children by former marriage: 
             Elba A. - b. Nov. 8, 1870
             Grace V. - b. Mar. 19, 1873
             Ardell W. - b. Sept. 4, 1875
   Children of last marriage: none
   Rejection on the ground that soldier's death on June 29, 1881 from suicide 
by hanging was not due to his military service and line of duty.
   Enlisted Sept. 7, 1864 & discharged May 30, 1865.  Invalid pension 
applicaion filed June 26, 1880.  Former marriage of soldier: Jan. 5, 1867.  
Death of former wife: Apr. 13, 1880.  Death of former husband: Dec. 18, 1878.  
Claimant's marriage to soldier: Feb. 15, 1881.  Remarriage of claimant: Nar. 
25, 1886.

   Aug. 22, 1901: Application of Augusta M. Austin, aged 46, of Penn Yan, Yates 
Co., N.Y., widow of Nelson Reynolds who served in Co. I, 189th Regt. N.Y. 
Infantry, was honorably discharged and who died June 27, 1880.  She married the 
soldier as Augusta M. Brodie on Feb. 16, 1885; in Scio, N.Y. by Elder James 
Hart.  Both had been previously married.  No children under 16 years of age now 
living.  She applies for the amount of pension to which she is entitled for the 
time she was the widow of said Nelson Reynolds from the time of his death to 
the time of her remarriage.  

   Enlistment record: Nelson Reynolds , born in Pittsfield, Massachusetts, aged 
21, farmer, enlisted at Hornellsville, N.Y. Sept. 7, 1864.  Grey eyes, brown 
hair, tan complexion, 5'8" high.
