All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.org/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.org/ny/nyfiles.htm *********************************************************************** "Wayland Register," July 13, 1921 WAYLAND MAN KILLED BY TRAIN RAPHAEL DIETER WAS STRUCK BY TRAIN 11 AND INSTANTLY KILLED WEDNESDAY Raphael Dieter, aged 25 years, son of Mr. and Mrs. Daniel M. Dieter of the Wayland-Dansville road, was instantly killed at 6:45 Wednesday morning when struck by the west bound D.L.& W. Express No.11. Mr. Dieter, who has been employed at the W. H. Gunlocke Chair plant, was coming across lots and from the pumping station was walking on the track. At the curve about one-half mile from the depot a freight passed and he had taken the other track when the flyer struck him. Dr. George M. Peabody, acting coroner for Dr. Smith of Bath, rendered a verdict, death by accident. The body was taken to the undertaking parlors of Mr. Baird and later to the family home. Surviving Mr. Dieter, besides his parents, are three brothers, Clifford, Ralph and Francis, all of Wayland. The funeral will be held at St. Joseph's church, Saturday morning at 9:30 o'clock.
