SIMMONS Bath, May 17.---William H. Simmons died this morning after a ten days' illness of heart disease. His death removes one of the well known men of this community, where he had made his home for the past twenty years and had been actively engaged in business. Mr. Simmons was 68 years old and a native of Geneva, Ohio. In early life he was engaged there as a florist. Some twenty years ago he removed to Bath, and for several years had been engaged in the insurance business, being the senior member of the firm of Simmons & Taggart. Mr. Simmons was also active in local Democratic politics, serving at the time of his death as chairman of the Steuben County Committee, and also as treasurer of the village of Bath. He was a member of the St. Thomas's Episcopal Church and a member and clerk of its vestry. Mr. Simmons was a member of the Bath Masonic bodies and also of the Corning Consistory. He was twice married, first to Adelaide, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James Parks, of this village. Surviving her death by six years, he was again married in November last to Madame Rosamond Linnette, who survives. He also leaves a sister and several nephews in Ohio. As yet the arrangements for the funeral are incomplete, but it is expected the service will be conducted on Friday afternoon by Rev. Charles E. Purdy and the commitment in Grove cemetery will be under direction of the Bath Masonic bodies. Wayland Area Scrapbook 1920-1926, Gunlocke Library, Wayland, Steuben Co., NY
