He was president of the Board of Education in Central Islip for several years, an officer in the Methodist Episcopal Church there and Republican county committeeman of Suffolk County. Owing to ill health he was compelled to retire from active life about five years ago, when he came to Dunellen to take up residence here, his family having preceded him. Mr. McHugh was a member of the Central Islip Lodge ofWoodmen of the World, and also Clan MacKenzie NO.204 of Plainfield. Besides his widow, who was the former Miss Josephine Weeks of Long Island, the deceased is survived by one son, George McHugh of Dunellen, and two daughters, Mrs. Wilbur Ketcham, of Oyster Bay, Long Island, and Mrs. Charles Leach, of Tea Neck. He also leaves three grandchildren. Prayer services were held by Clan MacKenzie on Sunday evening at the late home of the deceased and the funeral was held on Monday afternoon from the Dunellen Methodist Episcopal church. Rev. M. I. Andariese officiated, assisted by Rev. E. R. Brown. Interment was in Hillside Cemetary , Plainfield. The pall bearers, selected from three organizations with which the late Mr. McHugh had been associated during his residence here, were the following: Joseph Martin and Charles Nonemaker, of the Dunellen Methodist Episcopal Church; Joseph Hamley and William H. Clark, from the Dunellen Presbyterian Baraca Class; James Douglas and John Dodds of Clan MacKenzie. (Note: Wife, Miss Josephine Weeks, had been married before her marriage to John McHugh. Her first married name was Valentine. Her daughter by Mr. Valentine was Edith (Mrs. Charles Leach) and her daughter by Mr . McHugh was Mrs. Luella Ketcham. The three grandchildren are probably Emerson and Lillian McHugh (twins) and their younger sister Eunice Constance (George's children). Margorie McHugh had not been born at this time. When John and Josephine got married, they moved to Central Islip. Both had met while working at the State Mental Hospital. John was possibly head farmer, and J osephine worked as staff housekeeper for 8 doctors living in the staffhouse.)
