Brady, Sister Mary deLourdes BRADY-Sister Mary deLourdes, CIJ, died after a long illness on Thursday evening, April 14, 2005, at the age of 94 years and 9 months. Sister entered the Congregation from Our Lady of Good Counsel Church in New York City and was professed in 1930. She received her R.N. from St. Mary's School of Nursing, Brooklyn. Sister was a public health nurse, serving the Brooklyn Diocese for ten years until she was transferred to Mercy Medical Center in Rockville Centre where she served from 1944-1960. Sister was then called to serve in the Congregation's new mission in the Bahama Islands from 1960 to 1966. From 1966 on, Sister served in the Congregation holding Congregational responsibilities until her retirement at the Motherhouse and subsequently in the Assisted Care Unit of the Congregation at Villa St. Joseph in Rockville Centre, where she died on April 14, 2005. Wake will be held at Villa St. Joseph, 984 North Village Avenue, Rockville Centre, NY, on Sunday, April 17, 2005, from 2-5 and 7-9PM. Michael M. CHICUREL-Captain Michael M. of Long Beach, New York, passed away on Friday, April 15. He was 86 years old. Born in the Coney Island section of Brooklyn, New York, Captain Chicurel developed a love of the ocean that ushered him into a distinguished career in maritime affairs. He graduated from the United States Merchant Marine Academy in 1943 and served in the United States Navy during World War II. He was an instructor at the Merchant Marine Academy, Fleet Manager and Port Captain for Marine Transport Lines, Inc.; Chief of Merchant Marine Personnel for the Bureau of Maritime Affairs/Republic of Liberia; President of Atlantic Mace Corporation, and Ministry of Transport for the Commonwealth of the Bahamas. In addition, Captain Chicurel maintained numerous affiliations within the industry. He was selected to be a member of the Council of American Master Mariners; a member of the Order of the Top of the World, signifying he had crossed the Artic Circle, and a member of the Domain of the Golden Dragon, for crossing the International Date Line. He was proud that in 1963 he communicated via Syncom II, the world's first synchronous orbit communcations satellite, which he thought of as the start of the communications revolution. Captain Chicurel will now join his beloved wife, Anne, deceased in August, 2004, and is survived by his children, Judith Chicurel Kritt and David Kritt of Brooklyn, New York; Joseph Chicurel and Carri Chicurel of Oceanside, New York, and three grandchildren; Jessica, 17, Michael, 12, and Robert, 7.
