RATHER-James B., III, a former federal prosecutor and a board member of the ALS Association Greater New York Chapter died on Saturday at his home in Port Washington, NY. He was 65. A graduate of Phillips Exeter Academy, Cornell University and Fordham University School of Law, he prosecuted organized crime figures as an Assistant U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of New York from 1980 to 1986 and later founded a Long Island law firm, McMillan, Rather, Bennett & Rigano. After being diagnosed with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis in 1990 he became active in raising public awareness about the disease. Survivors include his wife Amalia, two sons, a daughter, four grandchildren and a sister and brother. He battled ALS courageously, never despaired. Inspired all who knew him and was deeply loved. William VIGLIOTTA-Rev. William, SMM, age 77, August 8, 2005. Ordained in 1954 Fr. Vigliotta taught Latin for 15 years at the former Montfort Prep Seminary, Bay Shore. In 1972 he was named director of the Shrine of Our Lady of the Island, Eastport, a position he held until his death. For over 35 years, he was very active in the Knights of Columbus. A 4th Degree Knight he served as chaplain of the Suffolk Chapter, chaplain of the Board of District Deputies, chaplain of the Suffolk Chapter Columbiettes and chaplain of Queen of All Hearts Council #4126, Center Moriches. In 1988 he was named Knight of the Year. A native of Brooklyn, and son of the late Crescenzo and Angelina Vigliotta, he was predeceased by his brother Mario, and his sister, Mary (Bellini). Surviving are his brothers and sisters, Emily (Sudano), Thomas, Ernest, Deacon Albert, Elisa, Tina, Jean (Delaney), Margie (Nardone) and Chris.
