He grew up in Bloomington, Indiana until the age of nine, when the family returned to New Jersey. There, he attended Belleville Schools and Rutgers University. He started playing trombone and saxophone at age 20. Among the name bands he worked with were; Hal McIntyre, Ray McKinley, Tommy Dorsey, Sammy Kaye, and Ralph Flanagan. He also played several years with the Lester Lanin Orchestra. When the Big Band Era came to a close, Dave worked with the Stephen Scott office playing parties and weddings. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Glorya, a son James (Leeann), daughter Amy Durand (Richard), sister Alison Bogert and four grandchildren. Reposing at Hungerford & Clark Inc. Published in Newsday on 8/27/2005. Plassmann, George Robert PLASSMANN-George Robert, Retired Lt. Col., 87, on August 25, 2005 in Austin, Texas. He was born in the Bronx, New York, on January 25, 1918. He lived in the Bronx and then Roslyn Heights, Long Island, until moving to Houston, Texas in 1977, and then to Austin in 2000. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Jody, and their seven children, 18 grandchildren, and eight great grandchildren who live in New York, Massachusetts, Texas and Tennessee. Also surviving are five of his six brothers and sisters, residing in New York, Oregon, Virginia and New Mexico. Plassmann joined the U.S. Army in January 1941, earning an assignment to Officer Candidate School for his superior performance during simulated maneuvers with the 9th Infantry Division. After graduation he was assigned to the Signal Corps, where he attained the rank of Captain training troops for combat in Europe. After separation from active duty, he joined the active Reserves, where he achieved the rank of Lieutenant Colonel before retiring in 1978. His post-war civilian career included service as an oil field equipment shipping manager for National Supply, Armco Steel, and Aramaco Oil Company. His extensive family surrounded him through his life, retirement and long struggle with respiratory disease, and congregate to honor his memory with a Memorial service at 1 p.m. on Sunday, August 27th in the Memorial Chapel of Cook-Walden Capital Parks Funeral Home, 14501 N IH 35 in Pflugerville, Texas, 78600. He is also survived by many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Achille was born in Boville Ernica, Italy, in 1920, the son of the late Gaetano Venditti and Libereta Verrelli. He arrived in America in January, 1936 at age 15. He served in the US Army during WWII, as part of the 135th Evacuation Hospital, Semi-Mobile, where he gained US citizenship.
