He served the East Islip Schools for over twenty five years as high school band director and later District Director of Art and Music. An appreciative community renamed the high school auditorium "Burnhart Rydzeski Hall" in recognition of his many years of sharing the joys of music and musical theater with over two generations of students. Burnie was also Camp Director at Peconic Dunes Camp, where he enjoyed a dozen summers working with children from all over Suffolk County.
