Arnone, Don
ARNONE-Don, 84, "A Founding Father of the New York Session Scene." A gifted
guitar player, often the first call of many of the most well-known musicians
in New York, Don Arnone passed away peacefully at home on June 16, 2005 after
a long illness. Mention his name to today's jazz and classical guitarists, and
the common response is, "One of the greatest guitarists in New York City."
Before his own death this year, guitar legend Tony Mottola said, "Don was not
only one of the best musicians in New York, he was also was one of the nicest
guys I have ever known." Born in Elizabeth, New Jersey, Don was given his
first guitar by his father at the age of 13. Mostly self-taught, Don's two
biggest influences were the late guitar geniuses, Wes Montgomery and Joe Pass.
He began his professional career in the 1940's while he served his country in
the U.S. Army, where his music was known to entertain his fellow soldiers.
Upon returning home, Don played with the Tune Toppers Quartet then made his
way to New York City. Due to the generosity of his dear friend Al Caiola, who
recommended him for sessions when he was unavailable, Don's career as a
respected recording artist began. Don primarily focused on studio and
television work, where he appeared as a regular on the Mitch Miller Show and a
variety of other popular shows, such as Arthur Godfrey, Fred Waring, Jackie
Gleason, Ed Sullivan, Jack Paar and others. Many of Don's recordings were done
with great artists such as Al Caiola, Tony Mottola, Bucky Pizzarelli, Al
Casamente, Barry Gailbrath, Gene Bertoncini, Vinnie Bell, Howard Collins,
Artie Ryerson, Alan Hanlon and Tal Farlow. Don can also be heard accompanying
Frank Sinatra, Buddy Holly, Frankie Avalon, Sarah Vaughn, Aretha Franklin,
Quincy Jones, Stan Getz, Bette Midler, Barbara Streisand, Dinah Shore, Percy
Faith and Julie Andrews. In addition, Don recorded and arranged many popular
television jingles. After his studio career, he contributed to several movie
soundtracks including Broadway Danny Rose, The Godfather I, Purple Rose of
Cairo, Where the Boys Are, Wise Guys, Lenny and The Year without Santa Clause.
Don was known to his family, friends and fellow musicians as a serene, gifted
man whose first priority was his family. He was admired as a kind, gentle
person who had a commanding presence and an effervescent personality that
effortlessly drew people to him. Don was always humble of heart and ready to
help his fellow man in any way possible. He instilled in his loved ones a
profound respect for human life and was able to convey that which truly
mattered - people, not things. Above all, he was guileless and soft of spirit.
Don is survived by a loving and adoring family, his wife Eleanor; daughters
Lynn, Leslie, and Elise; grandchildren Gregory and Leslie; and sister Angie
Palmieri. He was the cherished son of Joseph and Vita Arnone and the loving
brother of the deceased: Sue Parinello, Sophie Michna, Marie DeFreites, and
Gus Arnone. He will be sorely missed by those who were truly blessed to have
known him.

First Seniors of Chesapeake. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Ida, five

DONOHUE-Joseph P., United States Navy Chief Petty Officer, of Dover, DE,
suddenly at his home Monday, July 11, 2005. He was 40. He was born September
12, 1964 in Plainview New York to Joseph P. Donohue and the late Constance
Anderson Donohue. Joseph was an Aviation Structural Mechanic for the United
States Navy and served during Operation Desert Storm and Iraqi Freedom. He is
survived by his wife of 18 years, Anne E. Donohue of Dover; four sisters,
Margaret, Ellen, Susan and Anne; three brothers, James, John and Edward; his
in-laws, Howard and Mary Brunt of Newark, DE and 14 nieces and nephews. A Mass

SCHULTE-John H., 85, of State College, Pa., formerly of Brooklyn and
Massapequa, N.Y., died Tuesday, July 12, 2005. Born October 7, 1919, in New
York City, he was a son of the late William and Rose Casey Schulte. On
November 27, 1943, he married Edna May Donegan, who died July 20, 2000. He was
the Delivery Foreman for the New York Times, retiring in 1983 after 27 years.
He was former member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Massapequa,
N.Y. He was a retired member of the Newspaper and Mail Deliverers Union in New
York City. He is survived by his son, David L. Schulte and his wife Patricia
of State College; 3 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren, and a brother, Frank
Schulte of Rancho Santa Fe, CA. He was preceded in death by 2 brothers,
William and George Schulte. Visitation, 6-8 PM, today at Koch Funeral Home,
State College, Pa. Funeral Mass, 10:30 AM, on Friday in State College. Burial
will be in Old Stone Fort Cemetery in Schoharie, N.Y., on Saturday, July 16,

TREILING-Ingeborg of Sea Cliff died on July 8, 2005 at the age of 78. She was
born and raised in Germany and came to the United States in 1960. Being a Sea
Cliff resident for 29 years, she loved the village above all else. She is
survived by Robert, her husband of 41 years and her daughter, Dr. Sylvia
Treiling, son-in-law Christoph and two granddaughters, Lisa Marlene and
Charlotte. Ingeborg worked 31 years for Lufthansa German Airlines. During the
last 11 years of her career, she was Personnel Manager for North America. She
was known as a fair, dedicated and sympathetic manager. She will be missed by
all who know her, especially those who enjoyed her annual German-American
Thanksgiving dinners. A memorial will be held later. In lieu of flowers,

Wirtz, Howard L.
WIRTZ-Howard L. of Farmingdale, NY, on July 11, 2005. Born in Cincinnati,
Ohio, the son of Leonard Joseph and Edith. Brother of Blanche, Aline and
Leonard, Jr. Came to New York during WWII as military guard stationed at
currently known as Greenhaven Prison in upstate New York. During weekends,
Howard would frequent a small private airfield in Stormville, NY. He met May
North, a Long Islander who was taking flying lessons at the airport and
married soon afterwards. They moved to L.I. and he continued his love of
flying by joining Civil Air Patrol, an Auxiliary of the U.S. Air Force. He
gave 25 years of service and became Lt. Col. of the Nassau Long Island Group.
He later joined the Jones Beach Power Squadron, a boat safety training
organization. Retired from Brookdale Hospital Center, Brooklyn, after 22 years
of service. Devoted husband of 57 years to May; father to Kenneth and Phyllis
Henry; grandfather of six, Brian, Joshua, William, Cheryl, Jesse and Philip;
great-grandfather to Daniel. Survived by nieces, great-nieces and
great-nephews in Ohio; nephews and great-nephews on Long Island. As per his
wishes, there were no calling hours. Cremation was private. A Celebration of
his life will be held Friday, July 15th, 8PM, at Kingdom Hall, Merritt Road,
Farmingdale. As a tribute to Howard, donations may be sent to Parkinson's
Disease Foundation (1359 Broadway, Suite 1509, NY, NY 10018).
