Dhar, Bikashendu DHAR-Bikashendu, M.D. The family of Bikashendu Dhar, M.D., is sad to announce his sudden death on July 11, 2005, in Italy, near Perugia. Dr. Bikashendu Dhar was born in Patna, India, and immigrated to the United States in 1971. He received honors in medicine from Patna Medical College, and became a member of the Royal College of Physicians, Edinburgh, Scotland, in 1957. Upon his return to India in 1957, he became a lecturer of medicine at Patna Medical College and devoted his career to the care of the poor and needy in the state of Bihar, India. After immigrating to the U.S. with his family, Dr. Bikashendu Dhar was a successful internist practicing in Queens, N.Y., until his retirement in 1995. Dr. Dhar is survived by his beloved wife, Seema; his four children, Reita married to Vilas Gadkari, Uday, Rajat married to Tina Dhar, and Amit; and his four grandchildren, Pia, Arjun, Nikhil, and Shurmila. Simon, Robert Raymond SIMON-Robert Raymond, died peacefully at his home on Dataw Island, S.C., July 14, 2005. Bob was born and raised in New York on Long Island. He attended Governor Dummer Academy in South Byfield, Mass. In 1945, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy under the V5 program. Under this program, he was sent to the University of Virginia for one year and then transferred to Duke University where he earned a BS in engineering. He was a member of Beta Theta Pi fraternity. Aviation was always a love and a big part of his and his family's life. His father was a flight instructor in WW I and one of the "Early Birds of Aviation." A commemorative plaque hangs in the Smithsonian Museum with his name. Although a "Babe in Arms," Bob witnessed Charles Lindberg's flight in the Spirit of St. Louis. At 16, he got his pilot's license and then later a commercial license. He worked for his father's firm, Liberty Aircraft, Inc. following WW II. Liberty Aircraft was closely associated with the early aircraft industry giants, Lawrence Sperry, Roy Grumman and Sherman Fairchild. When Liberty Aircraft closed, Bob then founded his own company, Liberto Aero in Hauppauge, N.Y. He was a wonderful and active member of many clubs, the Huntington Country Club, Cold Spring Harbor Beach Club, Indian Hills Country Club, Dataw Island Club, the "Monday O.F. Club" and the "Thursday Club." He always loved the ocean and the beach. Growing up as a native Long Islander, he was a true "clam digger" and "beachcomber." He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Barbara Cruthers Simon of Dataw Island; three sons, Rodney Cruthers Simon, Jeffrey Walters Simon, Robert Crossley Simon, all of Melbourne, Fla.; a daughter, Joan Simon Lohr of Ninwot, Colo.; a sister, Marilyn McMennamin of New Canaan, Conn., and 8 grandchildren.
