SCHIFMAN-David A., long time resident of Merrick, NY, died in Glen Cove on Saturday, July 16, 2005 after a long battle with congestive heart failure. A cabinet maker by trade, he was the President of Dave's Woodworking Co., and Shifmar Inc., both contracting firms on Long Island. Mr. Schifman was born in Frankfurt am Mein, Germany, on March 17, 1921 and had lived in Palestine between 1934 and 1947. He emigrated to the US in 1947 and became a naturalized citizen. Mr. Schifman was a board member of Congregation Ohav Shalom of Merrick in it's early years. Mr. Sweetland was a retired Physics teacher at Bethpage High School in Bethpage, NY. Survivors including his wife are: four daughters, Lori Nelson and husband Craig, Robin Saperton, Jodi Brenwald and husband Lorne, all of Myrtle Beach, SC, and Traci Okun and husband Robert of Pawleys Island, SC; two sisters, Lorraine Forshey and Carol Johnston both of Venice, FL; and ten grandchildren. Memorial service will be held Tuesday, July 19, 2005 at 8 PM at McMillian-Small Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 7 PM until service time.
