LUND-Peter B., devoted husband of Andrea, loving father of Mathew and Valerie, in the line of duty due to injuries sustained while operating at a house fire in Woodmere on Tuesday, June 14, 2005. A career firefighter with the New York City Fire Department, retired in 2003 after serving as Lieutenant of Rescue Company 2 in Brooklyn. Peter was a decorated, aggressive and tenacious firefighter who also devoted his life to his community where he volunteered for the Woodmere Fire Department. Lund followed in his fathers footsteps serving as Chief of Department and was currently Lieutenant along with his son who is Captain. He was also a volunteer in the Kentland Fire Department and was on staff at the University of Illinois Fire Institute, and former Deputy Chief Instructor at the Nassau County Fire Service Academy in Bethpage. He was the loving son of Marie Steutel and Clarence "Bunny" Lund, both deceased. He was loved by his parents-in-law, Annetee and Anthony Spadaro, brother and sister-in-law Lynne and Rick Cavallero, and nephews Marc and Danny. O'Connor, John R. O'CONNOR-John R., born on November 15, 1920 in Loretto, PA, died on Thursday June 16, 2005 after a short illness. He was a graduate of St. Francis University of Loretto, PA at the age of 19 and was honored as "Distinguished Alumnus in Education" in 1990. He began his teaching career in a one-room schoolhouse in rural Pennsylvania and a retired Jr. High School Principal in New York City. He was a co-author of numerous textbooks including: Exploring American History, Exploring a Changing World, Exploring American Citizenship and many others. Several of his textbooks were also printed in braille. He was also retired from the Air Force reserves as a Lt. Colonel. He was active in many civil and religious organizations: Trustee of Holy Name of Mary Church for 19 years, member St. Vincent De Paul Society, Holy Name Society, Knights of Columbus Fr. Thomas Carroll Council, Past President to the Catholic Interracial Council of Long Island and a member of the board of directors for 17 years, a dynamic speaker who was well known for his great sense of humor. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Catherine T. Murray, and the following children: Mary O'Connor Rogers, Kate O'Connor Frohn, Jack, Elizabeth O'Connor Kenny, Loretta O'Connor Strack, Patricia O'Connor Kielawa, Tom, Rich, James, Joseph and Theresa.
