Born July 8, 1916 to Katherine Buechler and Jacob Trenz, Frank was the oldest of four sons; Frank, William, James and Joseph. His youth was spent in the Bronx swimming at Baretto Point, playing stickball in the street and riding side-car on Pop's motorcycle. He attended Styvesant High School, worked his shortwave radio (W2EYU) and played End on semi-pro football team (back when men were made of iron and ships of wood, according to his brother Joe). The members of that team, Springhurst, were his life-long best friends, especially his cousin Tony. Frank was a sergeant in the National Guard. During the beginning of WWII he taught Morse code. In 1940 Frank married Alice Manek. They were blessed with 51 years together before Alice passed away in 1990. A daughter, Barbara, was born to them. A son, William was their second child. William was named for Frank's brother Bill, an air force bombardier who died in WWII. Frank a machinist at R. Hoe and Co., was a leader and served in the capacity of shop steward. At R. Hoe & Co. he became a methods engineer and ended his career at the Daily News. One of Frank's greatest accomplishments was the completion of a lovely home built with absolutely no previous experience in Baldwin L.I. by Frank and eight of his friends. That home provided his family with shelter and comfort for years. His voracious reading satisfied his lifelong pursuit of knowledge. He loved and excelled at math and science. Geography was an interest and history a passion. Frank's daughter, Barbara is the mother of five of Frank's granddaughters and his son, Bill, who was married to Angela Como is the father of his sixth granddaughter. The untimely death of Frank and Alice's son, William, forever changed their world. Frank's strength of character during that tragic time was inspirational. The 1979 marriage of Frank's daughter, Barbara, to James Romaine, Jr. brought an extended family including three step grandchildren. Frank will be forever remembered for his gentlemanly manners, his bow ties, his great intelligence and incredible abilities, a wonderful sense of humor and sense of duty. Frank not only talked the talk, but he walked the walk. It was a pleasure and privilege to know him. Frank is predeceased by his parents Katherine and Jacob, brothers William and James, wife Alice, son William, stepgrandson Scott Romaine and Grandson-in-law Michael Simon, as well as two sisters-in-law and four brothers-in-law. Frank leaves behind his beloved youngest brother, Joseph and his wife Joan, as well as his sister-in-law Rita. Sisters-in-law Olgo Brodsky, Lillian Yacuk, Ann Brodsky and Vera Broczski also survived him; his daughter and son-in-law Barbara and Jim Romaine; his daughter-in-law Angela; and the following grandchildren and their families: Eileen Simon and Brittany, Michael Jr. and Tyler; Kristen and Christopher Klass and Katerina, Atticus and Anders; Elise and Spiros Polikateros and Nike and Niko; Bridget and Robert DiMartini and Emma, Jacob and William; Kathryn Haray and Robert and Gretchen; Jennifer Trenz and her fiance Michael Wasielesky; and step-grandchildren Lenore and Mark Goley and Cassondra; James III and Fiona Romaine and Brianna, Carlin, Shannon and James IV. Frank is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Special to him among them is James Trenz and Eileen Robertti.
