Dowling Sr., William Race
DOWLING-William Race, Sr. "Bill". Born May 9, 1927 in Mineola New York, the
son of the late James and Wilhemina (Grempel) Dowling, died peacefully March
6, 2005 at his residence in Weyer's Cave, Virginia. Bill Dowling is survived
by his wife of 56 years, Margaret Jane "Peggy" Dowling, his three sons,
William Race, Jr., James Troy and Adam Price Dowling, their wives Joyce, Cindy
and Maria, and his seven grandchildren, Maia, Trevor, Justin, Joanna, Megan,
Travis and Tyler Dowling. Bill Dowling was a varsity football star at his high
school in Freeport, NY, until he enlisted in the Navy during World War II. He
served on the submarine USS Bergall until the end of the war upon which he
married Margaret. He joined the Operating Engineers Union Local 138 working as
a heavy equipment operator. He retired in 1992. Although he never chose to
attain the credentials Bill Dowling was in large degree an intellectual. His
favorite subject was the Civil War. He never disliked anyone, nor acquired any
enemies. He was always your friend, companion and there for you. He believed
that you live on by the life you lead and the affect you have on those you
leave behind. Memorial Service will be at Davies Memorial Unitarian
Universalist Church in Camp Springs, Maryland on April 2, 2005.

Gieseler-Husslebee, Florence
GIESELER-HUSSLEBEE-Florence on March 7, 2005. Born July 22, 1911 in Brooklyn,
NY, Florence worked as a telephone operator in NYC where she met her future
husband, William A. Gieseler. Together, they watched the construction of the
Empire State Building; were wed on December 29, 1931 and set up residence in
Islip in 1933. Florence had four sons, three of whom, William from East Islip;
Robert from Wappingers Falls; and John from Bayport survive. She lost her
fourth son James in infancy. She has 11 grandchildren and 15
greatgrandchildren. She was a beloved sister of the late Hilda Beck, Catherine
Fischer, Emily Diffly and Charles and Edward Delancey. William died in 1971
and in 1975, Florence married Robert Husslebee who also pre-deceased her.
Florence worked as a cafeteria aide in Islip's Wingenhauppauge Elementary
School for many years. She was an avid baseball fan and enjoyed children and
traveling. Beloved by her family, she will be sorely missed. Visiting will be
Wednesday 2-5 and 79pm at the Overton Funeral Home, Inc., 172 Main Street,
Islip, NY. Requiem Mass, Thursday, 11am at St. Mark's Episcopal Church, Islip.

2005 from congestive heart failure. Art was preceded in death by his parents
James and Josephine, his wife Midge and his son Dennis. He leaves behind son
and daughterin-law Tom and Kathy Mendoza, daughters and sons-in-law Nanci and
Jack Alexander, Sue and Todd Thomas and six grandchildren, Shaun, Dana, Chris,
Dan, Matt and Eric. Art is also survived by his wife Barbara, all of his
adopted Florida family and his sister Margaret Hample of Lindenhurst, NY. Art
served in the Navy during WWII where he was awarded The Distinguished Flying
Cross. Art achieved success in the brokerage industry as a V.P. of Merrill
Lynch, EF Hutton and Dean Witter. Art loved sports and all competition, but
his true love was tennis. Many an exasperated opponent would attest to his
tenaciousness on the court. Every year a needy student enrolls at the
University of Notre Dame as an Arthur A. Mendoza scholar, which was a source
of great pride to him. In lieu of a service, Dad's final request was that we
all remember him as the vibrant, happy father, grandfather and friend he was.
