Rarely seen without a tie and jacket, Mr. Kane was a man with a warm smile and easy laugh. He enjoyed good company, fine restaurants, and most of all, his family. (Gatto) 88, of Malverne, NY, formerly of Lynbrook, NY died Saturday May 7, 2005, following a brief illness. Louise has been a devoted mother and grandmother; who in her quiet unassuming and insightful way imparted a strong sense of family and togetherness in her children and grandchildren. Loved by everyone she touched, Louise was a longtime member of Christ Episcopal Church, Lynbrook. Louise was the widow of Michael Joseph Vetere, Sr., to whom she was married for 49 years; the daughter of the late Maryangela (Dragonetti) and Matthew Gatto; mother of Joyce Milowski of Sea Cliff, NY, Michael Joseph Vetere, Jr., and his wife Terry of Slippery Rock, Pennsylvania, Anita Coonan and her husband Patrick of Malverne, NY, and John Vetere and his wife Mariann of Andover, MA. He was the beloved and admired father of Steven (Stephanie) and Daniel (Marcia) and grandfather of Jacqueline, Merrill, Maddie, Caryn and Melissa. Born in Vienna, August 2, 1920, he fled alone to England in 1938, came to America and returned to Europe with the U.S. Army, where he earned a bronze star for valor under fire. He received an MSW from Columbia University and became a leader in the field of Jewish social work, serving as executive director of the Central Queens Y for 35 years and co-founding the Central Nassau Y. A man of gentle strength and an intellectual vigor, he loved classical music, was a generous supporter of Jewish causes, and was blessed with devoted and loving family and friends.
