GARVEY-Gloria Gunther, age 87, of Stratford, CT, and formerly of Garden City,
NY, on Sunday, May 8, 2005. Born in Brooklyn on November 29, 1917, she was the
wife of the late James F. Garvey. Survivors include her seven children: James,
William, John and Thomas Garvey, and Patricia Regan, Mary Clare Frank and
Judith Dooley; and brothers J. Robert and William H. Gunther. She was
grandmother of 19 and great grandmother of four. Friends are invited to attend
the Funeral Mass on Thursday, May 12, 2005 at 10AM at St. Mark Roman Catholic
Church, 500 Wigwam Lane, Stratford. Burial will be at Holy Rood Cemetery,

Herma, Janice
HERMA-Janice, 63, of Lighthouse Point Florida, formerly of Hempstead, New
York, passed away on Friday, April 29, 2005. Janice's life was full of friends
and family. She was a graduate of C.W. Post College on Long Island. For 10
years she was a Media Specialist in schools throughout Europe for the U.S. Air
Force. Janice finished her career in 2000 as a Media Specialist after 21 years
in Forest Hills Elementary School in Coral Springs, Florida. For many years
Janice supported Kids in Distress in Fort Lauderdale. Janice is survived by
her brother John (Susan); niece Kyle; nephew Drew, all of Elm Grove, Wisconsin
and Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. She is also survived by her dear friends, Terry
and Bernice Funk of Boca Raton, Florida; and other wonderful friends, cousins
and godchildren. A celebration of Janice's life will be held at 12:30PM on
Saturday, May 14 at the Congregational Church of Boca Raton. Babione Funeral

death by her loving husband, Alfred, and her brother Vincent. She is survived
by her sons, Joe of Richmond, VA, Rick of Commack, NY, Al of Barboursville,
VA, and Bobby of Silver Springs, MD; her daughter, Linda Grayson of
Barboursville, VA. The loves of her life were her grandchildren, Stephen,
Michael, Danny, Kristen, Ryan, Devan and Katrina. She was always the center
and base for the family, no matter where we were. And she cherished the
moments we had when we were all able to be together. Although she had many
cherished friends, none closer than Marilyn and Jack Kirk, of Charlottesville,
VA, formerly of Huntington Station. Friends may visit with the family from

Woods and sister Margaret Gibbons. She is survived by her husband Walter, sons
David, Daniel, Thomas, Christopher, John, James, and Stephen. Family will be

1923, she was a descendent of Robert Hicks who came from England to Plymouth,
Mass. on the 2nd crossing of the "Fortune" in 1621. Founder of 'Volunteers for
Wildlife' in 1982, an organization dedicated to the preservation and
rehabilitation of Long Island's wildlife and its habitat. She was also a
charter member of Huntington Audubon society in 1961. Beloved wife for 57
years of Charles. Loving mother of Kathy (David) Chase, Alan (Mary Ann) and
James (Mary Alice). Adoring grandmother of eleven. A celebration of her life
will be held at Caumsett State Park in Lloyd Neck on Saturday, May 14, 2005 at

Thurber, Ruth E.
THURBER-Ruth E., 90, of Brightwaters, NY, born June 20, 1914 passed on April
18, 2005. Her curiosity of all things in this Universe never wavered in her
later years. Though she did not attend college, she continued to learn and
encouraged her children and grandchildren to do so. Since childhood, Ruth has
entertained her broad imagination, which helped her become a talented artist.
She was also a member of various organizations, including 40 years of service
to the Girl Scouts. We feel she is in a place where she can paint again and
run through the waves as she did well into her 50's, and her never-ending
questions about science and nature will finally be answered. Ruth is preceded
in death by her husband of 60 years, Hilliard Thurber; and her daughter, Diane
Murray. She is survived by two sons, H. Gene and Craig Thurber, 10
grandchildren and 6 greatgrandchildren. Soon she will join her husband in the
waters off Long Island which brought them both so much enjoyment. We love you
and miss you terribly Mom, Grandma and Great-Grandma!
