forty-three year old Chief was a 23 year member of the Alerts, serving as
Lieutenant, Captain and Assistant Chief before being elected Chief of
Department in 2002. Chief Hoey is survived by his wife Anne (Hawkins), his son
Raymond and daughter Kelly. He is also survived by his mother, Ruth Olson Hoey
of Great Neck; his brothers, Robert, Danny and James and his sisters Ellen,
Deborah, Cindy, Tina and Jayne. Chief Hoey will be reposing at Alert Fire
Company Headquarters, 555 Middle Neck Road (between Baker Hill Road and
Fairview Avenue), Great Neck on Thursday, May 12 from 7-9 pm and on Friday,

Spano, Michael W.
SPANO-Michael W. a lifelong resident of Yonkers and Long Island, recently of
Boynton Beach, FL, died on Thursday, May 12, 2005 after a short illness. Born
in Yonkers on June 8, 1944, he was the son of the late William A. and
Antoinette M. Spano. He is survived by his sister, Lucille A. Tytlar and her
husband, Ronald of Wappingers Falls; his sister, Patricia A. Flotta and her
husband, Matteo of Fishkill; and his sister, Michele A. Krenza and her
husband, Martin J. of Alabama. Michael was a loving uncle to five nieces and
nephews: Anne Marie, William, Ronald Jr., Matthew and Antonia; and great-uncle
to Roxanne and Rachel. He was also the proud Godfather of William, Dorothea,
Julianne, John III, Frank III, Matthew and Carly. He attended Yonkers Schools,
graduated from Commerce High School in 1963, and attended Mohawk Valley
College. Mr. Spano worked in the family fuel oil business for many years
before joining New York State service as District Administrator for the
Worker's Compensation Agency, Long Island Region, until his retirement in
2001. He was an active member for many years of various organizations
including The Pugliese Club and the Shomokin Sportsmens Club. Calling hours
will be on Saturday and Sunday from 2-4 and 79pm at the McHoul Funeral Home,
Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Jct. A Mass of Christian Burial will be
celebrated on Monday at 10am at St. Columba Church, 835 Route 82, Hopewell
Jct. Interment will follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Valhalla.

Patchogue, NY EMS Squad. Jeffrey was an ex-Captain of Tally-Ho Engine Company
#3, Lynbrook Fire Department and an AMT-CC for the Lynbrook Medical Company
#1. He was a certified CPR instructor working with several volunteer
organizations including the Jefferson County Kentucky Explorers Program
instructing teens in the field of EMS. Jeffrey served his country proudly
earning the Purple Heart, the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, the
Combat Action Ribbon, the Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, the
Iraqi Campaign with FMF Combat Operations Insignia, the National Defense
Medal, the Armed Forces Medal with M (For Mobilization), the Sea Service
Deployment Ribbon and the Fleet Marine Force Warfare Designation. The family

Wyatt, Caeleb, Joseph, Isabella and Daniel. Beloved son-in-law of Giuseppe and
Rosa Barberio of Ridge, NY. Beloved brother-inlaw of Jerome Barberio and his
wife Theresa of Woodstown, NJ, Franco Barberio and his wife Kimberley, of
Levittown, NY, and Anthony Barberio of Ridge, NY. Jeffrey is also survived by
many loving aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. Jeffrey devoted his life to
helping others, volunteering in numerous community related organizations and
departments. He was a former EMT for the County of Nassau, NY, earning the Red
Cross Life Saving Award, the Jefferson County, KY EMS Squad, and the
Patchogue, NY EMS Squad. Jeffrey was an ex-Captain of Tally-Ho Engine Company
#3, Lynbrook Fire Department and an AMT-CC for the Lynbrook Medical Company
#1. He was a certified CPR instructor working with several volunteer
organizations including the Jefferson County Kentucky Explorers Program
instructing teens in the field of EMS. Jeffrey served his country proudly
earning the Purple Heart, the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, the
Combat Action Ribbon, the Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, the
Iraqi Campaign with FMF Combat Operations Insignia, the National Defense
Medal, the Armed Forces Medal with M (For Mobilization), the Sea Service
Deployment Ribbon and the Fleet Marine Force Warfare Designation. The family
will receive friends on Saturday and Sunday, 2-4pm and 7-9pm, at the O.B.
Davis Funeral Homes, 1001 Route 25A, Miller Place, LI. Services will be held
at Calverton National Cemetery on Monday, May 16, 2005 at 10:30am. For those
