He served in the Army for two years and became interested in teaching. While teaching at the Norwich Free Academy in CT., he received his Master's degree from the University of Connecticut. In 1963, he began a 22 year career at Earl L. VanderMuelen HS in Port Jefferson as a math teacher and math club advisor. He appreciated the opportunity to interact with many students and colleagues. Retiring in 1985, he became an avid gardener, enjoyed playing golf, fishing, boating, traveling with his wife and watching sports, especially the Red Sox.
