She was born December 1, 1905, in New York City, to the late Max and Marie Scholz. She spent her early years in New York City and East Hampton, N.Y., before moving with her family to Queens Village in the early 1920's when her parents opened the Queens Village Bakery. After marriage, she continued to reside in Queens Village until the mid1980's when she moved to Amityville, N.Y., to be with her daughter. Later she moved with her daughter and her family to Renton, Wash., where she had lived since. Bertha was a graduate of New York University, School of Commerce. For most of her life she remained a homemaker, devoted to her husband, her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Queens Village. Bertha was a great lover of cats whom she adored, and who adored her. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband George, and her sister Edna Sanger. She is survived by her son Alan and daughter-in-law Carolyn Amrhein of Fresno, Calif., daughter Phyllis and son-in-law Richard Albrecht of Renton, Wash., grandchildren Wade Amrhein, Rondi Amrhein and Brian Amrhein of Fresno, Calif., Major James Albrecht of Tucson, Ariz., and Jennifer Anderson of Sumner, Wash.; great-grandchildren Jack, Sharon and Amy Anderson of Sumner, Wash. Mr. Pirog was a past President of the Columbia Society of Real Estate Appraisers and a former member of the Knights of Columbus and the V.F.W.
