O'Brien, John Joseph "Jack" O'BRIEN-John Joseph "Jack", 82, of Elverson, PA, formerly of Melville, NY, passed away on September 28, 2005 in Lancaster, PA. He is survived by his beloved wife, Barbara Fisher O'Brien, with whom he recently celebrated 53 years of marriage. Born in Brooklyn, NY, Jack was the son of the late J. Vincent O'Brien and Louise O'Brien. He graduated from Union College in 1944 with a Civil Engineering degree. Jack served in the Navy during WWII and was stationed on the USS Indiana in the North Pacific. An avid athlete, he was a member of the Great Neck High School baseball, basketball and football teams. Jack will be remembered as a caring, compassionate and fun-loving man who greatly enjoyed people. Jack touched many lives with his kindness, spirit and warm sense of humor. In addition to his wife, he is survived by three sons: John, James, and William and, 2 brothers: Robert O'Brien of Amagansett, NY and Vincent O'Brien of Huntington, NY. He was born in New York City, NY, to Robert and Catherine Pollard. He spent his early years in Mt. Loretta, Staten Island, and was raised by his sisters, Marie and Annette after his parents' deaths. He was a veteran of the Army and graduate of St. Cecelia's High School in N.J. and Hofstra University. He taught history at Dodd Junior High School in Freeport for 30 years. He was a resident of Uniondale for those years and a parishioner at St. Martha's Catholic Church. He was an assistant Cub Scout Master for several years. He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Theresa; sons, Robert and Patrick, and daughter, Bettina Debell, as well as grandchildren, Katie, Matthew, Maggie, William, PJ, Joshua, and Joseph. He was a devoted husband, loving father, and grandfather who will be deeply missed by all.
