He was a South Shore, Long Island bayman for 15 years after which he became a commercial truck driver. Peter continued to work in the food distribution industry until his retirement from Sysco Foods of Syracuse, NY in May of 2005. Mrs. Harnick worked for many years as a buyer of ladies clothing for several department stores. A long time resident of Long Beach, NY, she was a member of Temple Emmanuel in Long Beach, an active member of the Long Beach Hospital Auxiliary and was very involved with the National Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, earning a service award for her fund raising. As a younger woman, she enjoyed playing golf and always loved playing cards, especially poker. In addition to her parents, she is predeceased by her husband, Leo Harnick, who died in 1979; three sisters and a brother. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Dr. Robert and Joette Harnick of Greenfield Center; a grandaugther, Dr. Janelle Harnick of Farmington, CT; and two nieces, Rita Kalish of Houston, TX and Gloria Shapiro of Miami, FL. As a dispensing optician, he owned Higgins & Beckett Opticians of LI, was an instructor at NY City Community College in Brooklyn School of Dispensing Opticians and was a member of the NY State Board of Examiners for Opticians. He was also a member of the Hempstead and St. Thomas Rotary Clubs. He was devoted to his beloved wife, Florence Naumann Higgins of 64 years.
