All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.org/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.org/ny/nyfiles.htm Submitted Date: January 22, 2005 This file has been created by a form at http://www.genrecords.org/nyfiles/ File size: 5.4 Kb ************************************************ Source: FHL Film #497599 New York County Will Book Vol. 30 page 302 Written: January 13 1774 Probated: 14 March 1774 Will of Edward Johnson Of Huntington, Suffolk County, New York In the name of God Amen, I Edward Johnson of the township of Huntington in the County of Suffolk in the Province of New York, yeoman being in perfect health and of sound mind and memory thanks be given to God therefore and calling to mind the uncertainty of time and that it is appointed once for all men to die do make ordain and declare this to be my last will and testament abrogating and revoking all and every other will and wills testament and testaments by me heretofore made and declared and first I commend my soul to God and my body to be decently buried at the discression of my executors hereafter named and the expence attending my funeral to be paid out of my estate by my executors and with respect to the distribution of my estate both real and personal I give and dispose thereof in the following manner and form First I will that all my just debts be paid out of my personal estate and if that is not sufficient then so much of my land to be disposed of at the discretion of my executors as will pay the same and that by my executors. And secondly Item I give and devise to my beloved son Edward Johnson all my lands at Wini-Commack and also all my lands lying and being in the township of Huntington to him, to his heirs and assigns forever. The bounds whereof are as followeth: That at Wini-Commack is bounded on the North by the land belonging to the estate of George Wiser, on the south by the land now belonging to Elnathan Wickes; on the west to Huntington town line and on the east by the land now belonging to Gilbert Wickes and land in Huntingtown [sic] township is bounded on the east by Huntingtown east line. Item: I give and bequeath unto my son Isaac Johnson the sum of twenty shillings of New York money to be paid him by my said executors after my decease. Item: I give and bequeath unto my daughter Rebecca all the household furniture and other things that did belong to her mother. Item: I give to my daughter Sarah the sum of twenty shillings to be paid her by my executors. Item: I give to my daughter Dinah the sum of twenty shillings. Item: I give to my daughter Bathsheba the sum of twenty shillings. Item: As my daughter Jerusha has been before provided for I give and bequeath unto her the sum of ten shillings all to be paid by my executors hereinafter named. Item: My will further is that if my son Edward should die before he doth arrive at lawful age and without lawful issue that then my will is that the lands above given to my son Edward should be sold by my executor and the money arising there from to be equally divided between my three daughters namely Sarah Brush, Dinah Rulan [sic], and Bersheba Aleba. My will further is that my executors should put my said son Edward to some trade that they shall think best. Lastly, I do hereby ordain, constitute and appoint my two friends Jacob Willets Jun'r. of the township of Islip and Gilbert Carle of Huntingtown my executors of this my last will and testament giving them or either of them full power and lawfull authority to execute the same in every part thereof and to sell my lands as above directed and that their deeds shall be good and valid to the purcher [sic] or purchaser to all intents and purposes whatsoever. In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand and fixed my seal this thirteenth day of January in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and seventy four. Rebeckah Wiser [her mark] John Lockwood Silas Carle Suffolk County Ss: Be it remembered that on the fourteenth day of March one thousand seven hundred and seventy four personally came and appeared before me William Smith, Surrogate of the said County, Silas Carle of Huntington in Suffolk County aforesaid former and being duly sworn on this oath declared that he saw Edward Johnson sign and seal the within written instrument purporting to be the will and testament of the said Edward Johnson bearing date the thirteenth day of January one thousand seven hundred and seventy four and heard him acknowledge the same as and for his free and voluntary act and said that at the time thereof he the said Edward Johnson was of sound and disposing mind and memory to the best of the knowledge and belief of him the deponent and that his name subscribed to the said will of his own proper hand writing which he subscribed as a witness [etc.] Probate dated 13th May 1774.
