The source is not known but is probably a Tompkins County, NY newspaper. Susan and her family lived for many years in Groton. Obituary Died- At Sayre, PA Aug 27th, 1881, Mrs Susan Morton, wife of William Morton, aged 71 years. She was born in Vermont, in 1810 and came with her parents to Pennsylvania when five years old, and in 1817 they came to the town of Groton. She was married to Mr Morton on the 17th of March 1834. Soon after her marriage she embraced the views of the Baptitst denomination and was baptised into the fellowship of the First Baptist Church of Groton by its Pastor Rev J. S. Buckus. Of this church she remained a member until 1877 when she united with the First Baptist Church of Auburn. Her remains were brought back to Groton and her funeral was attended at the church on the Sabbath following her death. The sermon preached by the pastor was from Heb 7:19 Her experience as a Christian was joyous and earnest which made her influence felt in society and the church and especialy in her family. Here the sunlight of her influence shone out the brightest. She was devotedly attached to the doctrines and practices of her church and for its prosperity she labored. She leaves a husband and two sons to morn her loss, three dear ones having passed over the river before her. She was a loving faithful wife and mother, and while earth and especialy home is poorer, heaven is richer. Her remains now rest in our beautiful cemetery, amid the graves of those she loved. But "she is not, for God has taken her". I. W. E.
