Present Hon. Oliver P. Carpenter, Surrogate. The Last Will and Testament of Uriah North was admitted to probate and proved as a Will of real and personal estate, which together with the proofs in relation thereto, are as follows. I Uriah North of the town of Hurley, in the County of Ulster and State of New York being of sound mind and memory do make ordain publish and declare this to be my last Will and Testament, that is to say: First: After all my lawful debts are paid and discharged I give, devise and bequeath to my wife, Charlotte North the sum of Three Hundred Dollars, to be paid her out of my Estate by my herin after named Executor within 2 years after my decease, to be hers forever and the same to be in lieu of Dower. Second: I give devise and bequeath to my daughter, Amanda North, all the rest and residue of my Estate, both real and personal to be hers forever, and do hereby authorize my hereinafter named Executor to sell and dispose of all the Real Estate held by me at the time of my decease, if in his judgment, and the judgment of my said daughter, Amanda, it shall be advisable to do so, and to execute all needful conveyance therefore. Likewise, I make, constitute and appoint Henry C Bush, of the town of Hurley in the County of Ulster and State of New York, to be Executor of this my last Will and testament, hereby revoking all former Wills by me made. In Witness Whereof, I have hereinto subscribe my name and affixed my seal, the Fourth day of April in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and seventy eight. Uriah North {L.S.} The above instrument, consisting of 1 sheet, was at the date thereof subscribed by Uriah North in the presence of us and each of us; he at the time of making such subscription, acknowledges that he made the same, and declares the said instrument so subscribed by him to be his Last Will and Testament. Whereupon we then and there, at his request, and in his presence, and the presence of each other, subscribed our names as witnesses thereto. Benj. Turner Jr., residing at Shokan, Ulster, Co. NY Byron Markles, residing at Shokan, Ulster, Co. NY County of Ulster, Surrogate's Court, In the Matter of Proving the Last Will and Testament of Uriah North, Deceased} Ulster County ss: Benj. Turner Jr and Byron Markle of Shokan NY being first duly sworn in open court, on their oaths depose and say, that they are subscribing witnesses to the last will and testament of Uriah North, late of the town of Hurley in the County of Ulster, deceased, and these deponents further say that the said deceased did, in the presents of these deponents, subscribe his name at the end of the instrument which is now here shown these deponents, and which preports to be the Last Will and Testament of the said deceased, and which bears date the 4th of April in the year one thousand eight hundred and seventy eight, that the said deceased did, at the time of subscribing his name to the same instrument as aforesaid declare the same to be his Last Will and Testament that these deponents did thereupon subscribe their own names at the end of the said Instrument as attesting witnesses to the execution thereof, at the request of the said deceased, and in his presence, and in the presence of each other; and that the said deceased at the time of subscribing his name to the said instrument as aforesaid, was upwards of twenty one years of age that he appeared to be of sound mind and memory, and was not under restraint, to the knowledge, and belief of these deponents Benj. Oliver P Carpenter, Surrogate Recorded the preceding Last Will and Testament of Uriah North, as a Will of real and personal estate, which together with the proofs, in relation thereto, are now here signed and certified by me this 4th day of August 1890 Oliver P Carpenter, Surrogate Additional Comments: According to the book by Dexter North, John North of Farmington Connecticut, Uriah North, oldest son of John S and Mary (Hill) North was born in 1801 in the part of Marbletown NY that was later set apart as Olive where he resided and died in 1889. Uriah married first Lydia Schutt in about 1826 and had the following children: Stephen, Ursula (who married John Burroughs the naturalist), John, James, Josiah, Albert( who married in 1857 Amanda Day in Bloomington IL), and Amanda who never married. His second wife was Charlotte Winchell and they had: Peter, John (2nd), Susan, Catherine and Annette.
