Aug 1, 1856 / married Nov 26, 1883 Declarations, affidavits, etc. in support of pension claim: Dec 3, 1883--JULIA D'THREEHOUSE, aged 70 years, resident of Glens Falls, Warren Co, NY; declaration for mother's pension; stated that ALEXANDER THREEHOUSE, her son on whom she was dependent for support, died "from the effects of wound and disability received while in said service, on the twelve day of April 1864, aged 25 years and 6 mos."; brothers and sisters of the soldier under age 16 years on the date of his death: JOSEPH b. Sep 2, 1849, FANNY J. b. Aug 2 [sic], 1851, ANDREW b. Aug 1, 1856; that "her said husband died on the fourth day of May 1883 and she still remains his widow."; JULIA D'THREEHOUSE signed all documents with her mark X; witnesses EDWARD JOUBERT and STEPHEN CASAVANT. Dec 3, 1883--JULIA D'THREEHOUSE, resident of Glens Falls, Warren Co, NY; stated that "her son, ALEXANDER, came home from the Army, and died from the effects of wounds, disease and exposure, contracted while in said service. That her said son was attended during his sickness after he was discharged from the army until his death by Drs. PATTERSON and Son, late of Glens Falls, N.Y. both of whom are now dead, so that I am unable to furnish medical testimony of my said son's sickness and death. I also had letters showing that my said son ALEXANDER sent to me, while he was in the army, money for my support. Had five or six letters from him, two with five dollars each, one with ten dollars, one with a check for twenty dollars, another with twelve dollars, all of which letters were destroyed and burned by my said son ALEXANDER after he came home. That my other sons— JOSEPH and ANDREW, and also my daughter FANNY, are married and have as much as they can do to support themselves. One other son, THOMAS, has left home and is of unsteady habits and does nothing to help me."; witnesses EDWARD JOUBERT and STEPHEN CASAVANT. Dec 3, 1883--FANNY L. JOUBERT, resident of Glens Falls, Warren Co, NY; stated that "she has known Mrs. Julia D'Threehouse for thirty-four years, being well acquainted with her family, and know that her husband THOMAS D'THREEHOUSE was a disapated man who did not provide for his family, and know that her son ALEXANDER gave all his earnings, except what he used for his own clothing and necessary expenses, to help support his mother and her family, both before and after he enlisted. That the said JULIA D'THREEHOUSE was possessed of no property, and had to work out by the day to support herself and family, and that she was largely dependent upon her said son ALEXANDER for support." Jan 3, 1883--Mrs. JANE WELCOM/WELCOME, resident of Glens Falls, Warren Co, NY; state that "she has been acquainted with Mrs. JULIA D'THREEHOUSE and her family and circumstances for about thirty years, lived near neighbor to them ten years of that time, and know that her husband, THOMAS D'THREEHOUSE was a drunken man, who did not properly support his family, and that the said JULIA D'THREEHOUSE, his wife, had to work out by the day to support herself and family."; signed by her mark X; witnesses EDWARD L. MILLS and WILLIAM HOAG. Sep 17, 1884--JULIA D'THREEHOUSE, aged 71 years, resident of Glens Falls, Warren Co, NY; stated that "her residence and post office address was in 1864, and each year since, and is now, Glen Falls, Warren Co, N.Y. That her family is consisted in the year 1864, only of the following named persons, besides herself, after the death of ALEXANDER, and her husband THOMAS, viz. JOHN D'THREEHOUSE, born May 26, 1836, who ran away from home when seventeen years old, and whose whereabouts are not known; MARGARET, born Feb 13, 1840, is married; THOMAS, JR. has been away from home seven years, and his place of residence is not known, he was born Oct 23, 1846; JOSEPH D. born Sept. 2, 1849, married in 1877; FANNY J. born Aug 28, 1851, married in 1872; ANDREW, born Aug 1, 1856, and was married Nov 26, 1883. Claimant's children, and those married as above named have all they can do to support themselves. The claimant did now own, nor pay taxes on any real estate in 1864, neither did her husband at that nor at any time thereafter, nor has she owned or paid taxes on any real or personal estate since."; witness ISAAC TRIPP. Sep 25, 1884--JOSEPH JOUBERT, aged 38 years, resident of Glens Falls, Warren Co, NY; stated that "he has been well acquainted with THOMAS D'THREEHOUSE, and his family for twenty-three years, boarded at his house from the summer of 1861 continuously for seven or eight years, and lived near him thereafter, until his death and attended his funeral in May 1883. That the said THOMAS D'THREEHOUSE, father of ALEXANDER and husband of JULIA D'THREEHOUSE, in the year 1864, was very disapated and provided but little towards supporting his family, as he was drunk a good share of the time, and spent the most of his little earnings for drinks. His wife, the said JULIA D'THREEHOUSE, was a hard working woman, and she took in washing for others, in order to support her family, as she had no property of her own, and that the said THOMAS D'THREEHOUSE, did not improve, but continued to grow worse, and became a burden instead of a help to his family."; signed with his mark X; witness LOUIS H. ALDRICH. Jan 30, 1888--FANNY L. JOUBERT, aged 61 years, resident of 38 South Street, Glens Falls, Warren Co, NY; stated that "she was intimately acquainted with the above named ALEXANDER THREEHOUSE, & know from personal knowledge that when the said ALEXANDER THREEHOUSE came home from the service on or about February 1863. He had consumption or disease of lungs, & was unable to perform labor of any kind, on account of being in destitute circumstances he would try to work but the exertion would throw him into a hard cough & on several occasions caused him to spit blood. He remained in about this condition growing weaker & more emaciated having frequent atacks of hemorrhage until the 12th day of April 1864 at which time he died of said lung disease. He was treated during his sickness by Doctor Patterson then of this place now deceased. I further certify that I attended the funeral of the said THREEHOUSE & I also saw him frequently during his sickness & further I know of my own knowledge that he contributed largely towards the support of his parents before he went into the service."; signed by her mark X; witnesses Mrs. FANNIE J. HOAG and MELVINA CARTER. Nov 17, 1888--MARGARET M. WISE, aged 51 years, resident of No. 2 Mount Culan (?) Street, Glens Falls, NY and MARY SWEET, aged 65 years, resident of 20 Pine Street, Glens Falls, NY, stated that "we were well & intimately acquainted with the above named soldier prior to his enlistment & after his return from the service to Glens Falls, N.Y. on or about February 1863 up to the time of his death & that said ALEXANDER THREEHOUSE when he first came home from the service had consumption & was unable to perform any labor of any kind. His parents were to poor said son prior to his enlistment contributed to their support-said soldier failed gradually from said disease from the date he arrived home up to the date of his death. He died from said disease at Glens Falls, N.Y. on the 12th day of April 1864. Our means of knowing the above is from the fact that we lived near the claimant & we were intimate with her & her family before said son enlisted & all of the time since up to the present date & saw said soldier daily or nearly so from the time he came home from the service up to the date of his death & know from personal knowledge that he died from consumption or disease of lungs contracted while absent in the service. We both attended his funeral. Mrs. SWEET remembers that Dr. M.R. Peck now deceased treated him. Mrs. WISE certifies that she remembers of the soldier being treated by Doctor Patterson now deceased."; signed Mrs. MARGARET WISE; Mrs. MARY SWEET signed by her mark X; witnesses CHANCEY BULLARD and NANCY SMITH. Nov 23, 1888--JULIA D'THREEHOUSE, aged 75 years, resident of No. 70 West Street, Glens Falls, Warren Co, NY; stated that she "has used due diligence & is unable to find an officer of her said son's late company that was present with the command when he contracted said cold & cough which caused his death & in lieu of said evidence she has furnished the affidavits of two of his comrades who were present at the time & who certify from personal knowledge. She also certifies that owing to the death Drs. Patterson & Peck she is unable to furnish an affidavit from a physician that treated him after his return from the service & at the time of his death & in lieu of said evidence she encloses the affidavits of two more neighbors who lived within a short distance of her house & saw her said son every day or nearly so from the time he came home from the service up to the time of his death & attended his funeral. She further certifies that there was no town or other public record kept of deaths births or marriage prior to 1882. Also that she has not remarried since the death of the soldier."; signed by her mark X; witnesses JULIEN PICARD and EUGENIE PICARD. --End--
