Married Lucy Olen (also Olin) March 1789 Preston, CT, at her father Philip Olen's home. Lucy was born December 2, 1766 Preston, New London, CT. _______________________________________________________________________ To the Hon. John C Calhoun Secretary of the Department of war of the United States. The Petition and Declaration of James Fraser of Cherry Valley in the County of Otsego and State of New York a resident citizen of the United States, on oath setting forth and declares that in April 1782. He enlisted for nine months in Captain Dexters Company in Col. Jeremiah Oney's Regiment of the Rhode Island Line of Continental Troops, that he faithfully served the United States against the common Enemy in the said Line and Regiment for the full Term of nine months, when he was honourable discharged at Saratoga in the State of New York which discharge he has lost. The said James Fraser further on oath says that he cannot furnish any other proof of his service, than the affidavit and certificate hereto annexed, he further says that he is fifty six years of age, and upwards that he has no property, and from age and infirmities he is unable to procure a comfortable subsistence by the labour of his hands, and from such has reduced circumstances, his is absolutely in need of assistance from the country for support, and he prays the Hon. The Secretary at War to place him on the Pension List of the United States if he shall come within the provisions of the act to provide for certain persons ingaged in the land & naval service of the United States in the Revolutionary War and in duty bound will ever pray. His James X Fraser Mark Sworn & Subscribed April 6th day 1818 Before me James S Campbell one of judges of the court of Commons Pleas in & for the county of Otsego State New York State of New York Otsego County On this 20th day of June 1830 personally appeared on open court being the Court of Common Pleas of the County of Otsego, & State of New York, and being a Court of Record, & ------------- according to the principles of the common law with power of fine & imprisonment James Frazier aged fifty six years resident in said County of Otsego, who first being duly sworn according to the principals of the common law doth on his oath declare that he served in the Revolutionary War as follows: In Captain Dexters, in Colonel Olneys Regiment of Rhode Island Troops on the Continental establishment that on the sixth day of April one thousand eight hundred eighteen he made a declaration on oath in order to obtain the benefit of the act of the 18th of March 1818 that he has received a pension and that the number of his pension certificate is five thousand three hundred & sixty nine (5369) and I James Frazier do solemnly swear that I was a resident citizen of the United States on the 18th day of March 1818, and that I have not since that time by gift -----, or in any manner whatever disposed of my property or, any part thereof with intent thereby so to diminish it as to being myself within the provisions of an act of Congress entitles "an act to provide for certain persons engaged in the Land & Navel Service of the United States in the Revolutionary War" passed on the 18th day of March 1818 and that I have not nor has any person in trust for me any property or securities, contracts or debts due to me or have I any income other than what is contained in the schedule hereto annexed by me Subscribed Sworn to & des----- on this 20th his June 1820. Before the court James X Frazier Geo Morell Clk mark Schedule of the property of James Frazier the pensioner in the annexed papers named ----- ------ About ten years ago I made a contract for sixty three acres of land for which I agreed to pay three hundred dollars, I paid for it about two years ago except one hundred and thirty dollars & I borrowed one hundred and thirty dollars of J L Pinney which I paid towards the land I yet owe Pinney for the whole of this money & the interest of it. This land was lately apprised at $220. Personal property, one yoke of Oxen, two cows, both with my pension money, 1 two year old heifer, 2 yearlings, four small hogs, ten sheep, 2 calves, 1 pot, 1 kettle, four old chairs, 1 old table, a few dishes, three Iron Spoons. I owe two hundred & forty dollars to my different creditors, my occupation is that of a farmer, but my health is such that I am wholly unable to labour. I have a wife aged fifty five years, she enjoys poor health, I have two children & two grand children who live with me. Susan aged eighteen years is able to labor, William aged sixteen he is a weakly & puny boy. John William Coeuntdudge being a court of Record & proceeding awarding to the common law Lucy Frazier a resident of Warrenburgh, in the County of Warren, in the State of New York ---- --- eighty years being first duly sworn according to law doth ------- oath ---- make the following ---------- ----------- to obtain the following benefit of the ------------- made by the act of ----------- passed July 7th 1838 entitled --------- -------------- and pensions to certain widows and the subsequent acts supplementary There To that she is the widow of James A Frazier who was a private in the war of the Revolution who's service is set forth in the declaration on wherein he obtained a Pension Certificate under the act of the 7th of April 1832, dated August 10, 1833 ---- 20,196 Recorded in the pension office in book E ---- page 36. She further declares that she was married to the said James A Frazier on the nineteenth day of March in the year of seventeen hundred and eighty nine, at her father Philip Olen's house in Preston, in the county of New London, in the state of Connecticut, by General John Tylan Esquire. That at present there is no family record of the marriage --------- ---------- record having been destroyed by -----, and she ---------- believes there is no record of her marriage --- ------ ------ ------ has been made from such --------- ------------- ---------- ------------ her brother Benjamin Olen of Preston (who is eighteen months younger than herself) and her sister Mary Olen, now Mary Ellis, of the city of ---------- ------------- ------------ are herwith presented) were both present when the marriage took place. The ------ declares that her husband the aforesaid James A Frazier died on the fifteenth day of December eighteen hundred and thirty four, that she was not married to him prior to his leaving the service, but the marriage took place previous to the first of January seventeen hundred and ninty four ------- at the time above stated, that she now remains the widow of the said James A Frazier and has ----- -----------. That she does not know of her own knowledge of any of her late husbands service in the war of the Revolution, but has often heard him declare in his lifetime of his service in the war, and name the officers under whom he served. His statements are gone from her memory, and she respectfully refers to the evidence of his services as stated above and now at the war office.
