SOUTH GLENS FALLS -- Patricia L. Brooks, 61, of South Glens Falls, passed away on Tuesday, April 12, 2005, at Glens Falls Hospital, after a short illness. Born on Jan. 5, 1944, in Saratoga Springs, she was the daughter of the late Howard Lawrence and Beatrice Dutcher. Pat was a graduate of Hudson Falls High School. On Nov. 30, 1988, she married Thomas J. Brooks at St. Mary's/St. Paul's Church in Hudson Falls. She retired from CR Bard in Queensbury. Pat enjoyed making crafts, working on her computer and playing with her pets. Her favorite vacation spot was Walt Disney World. Best of all, she enjoyed spending time with her granddaughter, Phelicia. She was a proud survivor of breast cancer for five years. In addition to her parents, Pat was predeceased by her stepfather, Francis Dutcher and her first husband, Samuel Pessolano. In addition to her husband of 16 years, Thomas Brooks of South Glens Falls, survivors included her daughter, Jennifer Gignac and her husband, Mark, of Queensbury; her granddaughter, Phelicia Gignac; her sister, Ann Mallory of Hudson Falls; her nieces and nephews, Timothy Mallory of Hudson Falls, Christine Land of Fort Myers, Fla., Anthony Mallory of Cape Coral, Fla., Danny Mallory and his wife, Sarah, of Fort Myers, Fla., Cindy Flanders and her husband, Rodney, of South Glens Falls and Jodie Mallory of Fort Myers, Fla.; and several great-nieces, nephews, great-great nieces and greatgreat-nephews. There will be no calling hours. The Rite of Committal will be conducted at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, April 20, 2005, at St. Mary's Cemetery in the town of Fort Edward. Campney, 66, of LaBarge Street, passed away on Wednesday, April 13, 2005, at his home, after a short illness. Born on April 13, 1939, in Indian Lake, he was the son of the late Melvin and Beatrice (Daniels) Campney. George was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving his country during the Vietnam Conflict. On June 28, 1969, he married Mary Vandenburgh in West Glens Falls. For 15 years, George was employed at Mount Tom Box Company in Massachusetts and he retired in 2000 from Darilee Industries in Whitehall. He enjoyed gardening, fishing, woodworking, watching court shows on TV and junk collecting. George enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, especially in his back yard barbecueing. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his sister, Rosella Plumley; his brothers, Orlan Campney, Louis Campney, and Charlie Campney. Survivors include his wife of 35 years, Mary (Vandenburgh) Campney, of Hudson Falls; his two sons, Beecher Campney of Hudson Falls and Dyer Campney of Louisiana; his two daughters, Theresa Huntington of Whitehall and Denise Rodriquez of Massachusetts; seven grandchildren; two great- grandsons; three sisters: Betty McDougal of Olmstedville, Shirley Winney of Pottersville, and Jean Cole of Warrensburg; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Friends may call on Friday from 2 to 4 p.m. at Carleton Funeral Home, Inc., 68 Main St. in Hudson Falls. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Saturday at St. Mary's/St. Paul's Church in Hudson Falls. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. Canavan, Blanche Helen QUEENSBURY -- Blanche Helen Canavan, 73, of Cedar Court, The Woodlyns, passed away on Wednesday, April 13, 2005, at home following a brief, courageous battle with cancer. Born March 11, 1932, in Brooklyn, she was the daughter of the late John and Marcella (Nitkiewicz) Marcheleski. Blanche graduated from Kings County Hospital School of Nursing in 1952, at which time she began a lifelong career in nursing. She married her sweetheart, Raymond, on Sept. 24, 1955, in Queens. Blanche resided on Long Island until 1975, at which time she and her family moved to the Adirondack region. She, along with her husband, owned and operated the Green Haven Motel in Lake George, where she resided for 19 years, while continuing to work as a private-duty nurse. Blanche was a communicant and Eucharistic Minister of the Sacred Heart Church in Lake George. She moved to Queensbury in 1998 in the home where she spent her final days surrounded by her loving family. Throughout her years in Queensbury, Blanche was a member of Our Lady of the Annunciation Parish. Blanche spent many years doing volunteer work for Caritas, Hospice, and most recently, Mary's Haven in Saratoga Springs, caring for the terminally ill. She put her heart and soul into her volunteer services and never wavered on her commitments. She loved to attend her grandchildren's school sporting events. She enjoyed playing racquetball, gardening, watching Yankees games and tennis matches, doing crossword puzzles and playing Scrabble with her husband, Raymond, especially at their favorite beach in Florida, where they often vacationed during the winter months. Blanche will be missed by all who knew and loved her. Besides her parents, Mrs. Canavan was predeceased by one son, Kevin J. Canavan, who died in 1975, and one brother, John Marcheleski. She is survived by her husband, Raymond F. Canavan Sr. of Queensbury; five children: Barbara Canavan of West Palm Beach, Fla.; Patricia Sieber and her husband, Glenn, of Commack, Long Island; Annemarie "Amy" Sullivan and her husband, James, of Queensbury; Raymond F. Canavan Jr. and his wife, Kathleen, of Lake George; and Mark Canavan and his wife, Terri, of Lake George; one brother, Joseph Marcheleski of Berryville, Va.; one sister-in-law, Mary Burkitt of Cheyenne, Wyo.; six grandchildren: Amanda and Lauren Sieber, Alison and Kevin Canavan, and Tia and Ryan Sullivan; three nephews and one niece, Joseph, Brian, Christian and Edna Marcheleski. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Saturday, April 16, 2005, at Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church, 51 Mohican St., Lake George, with the Rev. Paul C. Cox and the Rev. Joseph E. Anselment officiating. Demers, Daniel Joseph COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. and Queensbury -- Daniel Joseph Demers, 20, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, March 27, 2005, in Colorado Springs, Colo., as a result of a car accident. He was born June 20, 1984, in Colorado Springs. Daniel enjoyed fishing, camping, music, all his friends and family. He loved making people laugh and brought happiness to all who knew him. He attended the Art Institute of Colorado in Denver and his primary occupation was a chef. Daniel is survived by his parents, Rick and Josephine; his brothers, T.J. and Cory; grandparents, Marcel and Cecile Demers; grandmother, Emilia Avila; aunts and uncles, Mary and Martin Abeyta, Emily and Roy Vargas, John and Adela Cross, Ruth and Richard Fernandez, Deb and Steve Furlong, Laurie and David West, Andre and Michelle Demers; godparents, Mike and Ruby Robles; and many cousins. He will be sadly missed but never forgotten by all who knew him. My Brother I wish that I could turn back time and fix the things we put behind. I realize you're in a better place but why'd you go on that early date? The days, nights and moments we always played, laughed, sometimes fought but that's ordinary. We'd forgive and forget, brother. Dever, Lillian (LaPoint) PALM HARBOR, Fla. -- Lillian (LaPoint) Dever, 98, of Palm Harbor, Fla., passed away Monday, April 11, 2005, at Mease Countryside Hospital following a brief illness. Lillian was born Oct. 22, 1906, in the Glens Falls area, and was the daughter of the late Edward and Jenny (Shepard) LaPoint. Lillian was a wonderful mother, friend and companion. She enjoyed the many trips and excursions she and her three daughters shared. She was deeply loved and will be greatly missed. Besides her parents, Lillian was predeceased by her husband, George W. Dever; her son, George W. Dever Jr.; her two brothers, Clarence and Francis LaPoint; and her sister, Evelyn Grant. She is survived by her daughters: Beverly Mandolare and her husband, Anthony, of Hudson Falls; Marilyn Gregory and her husband, Glenn, of Queensbury; and Linda Jones and her husband, Noel, of Safety Harbor, Fla.; a daughter-in-law, Patricia Dever of Queensbury. She is also survived by her grandchildren: Bruce Mandolare and his wife, Cathy; Gary Mandolare and his wife, Charlene; Alan Gregory and his wife, Melissa; James Gregory and his wife, Joanne; Susan Murray and her husband, William; Donald Dever and his wife, Beth; Pamela Dever; Debbie Martel and her husband, Michael; Robin Coyle and Timothy, Edward and Michael Eno; 11 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter. A celebration of her life will be held at a later date. Published in the Post-Star on 4/14/2005. Green, Vernon N. "Bud" South Glens Falls/Florida -- Vernon "Bud" N. Green, 79, a resident of South Glens Falls, passed away on Monday, April 11, 2005, in West Palm Beach, Fla. Born on Dec. 6, 1925, in Moriah, N.Y., he was the son of Gordon and Agnes (Clodgo) Green. He graduated in 1939 from Port Henry High School, second in his class of 35. After graduation from high school, he attended Princeton University until Pearl Harbor Day. He then enlisted for two years with the U.S. Army. After returning home, Bud finished college and entered Albany Law School from where he graduated in 1951. Vernon (Bud) and Florence (Sis) M. Barber were married on Aug. 14, 1949. In an excerpt from the Congressional Record of July 13, 1994, Congressman Jerry Solomon honors Vernon Green with the following regarding his retirement: "Mr. Green graduated from the Albany Law School in 1951, and was admitted to the bar later that year. He began private practice in 1954. He subsequently served as South Glens Falls village justice from 1955 to 1975, South Glens Falls School district attorney from 1960 to 1994, and Moreau town attorney from 1956 to 1994. In those 39 years of service to the community, Mr. Green not only acquired a priceless grasp of local affairs, but conducted himself in a manner that brought credit to his profession. ... I would ask all the members to join me in the tribute to this outstanding attorney and great American." Mr. Green retired from the town and school in June 1994 and continued general practice to date. After overcoming many obstacles, Bud was able to enjoy his passions for golf, bridge and traveling with his wife. Together Bud and Sis wintered in Florida. Many organizations benefited from Vernon's membership, including American Legion from 1947, American Bar Association from 1989, Saratoga County Bar Association from 1954, Warren County Bar Association from 1952 and Holy Name Society of St. Michael for several years. The Rotary Club of South Glens Falls bestowed its top honor, a Paul Harris Fellowship, on him for recognition of his service. He was a member from 1954 to date, having served as a past president. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his son, James, who passed away in March 1969. Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Florence (Barber) Green of South Glens Falls, his daughter, Kathy Ann Green of South Glens Falls; and his sister, Constance Green of Arlington, Va. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m., on Saturday, April 16, 2005, at St. Michael the Archangel Church, 80 Saratoga Ave., South Glens Falls. Burial will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery in South Glens Falls. Family and friends are invited and may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., on Friday, April 15, 2005, at Regan & Denny Funeral Home, 94 Saratoga Ave., South Glens Falls. Hoag, 76, passed away on Tuesday, April 12, 2005, at her home. She was born on Nov. 1, 1928, in the town of Moreau, the daughter of the late Leo and Isabelle (Potter) Hoag. Illa was a lifetime member of Fortsville United Methodist Church and served on many committees. She retired from Continental Insurance after 33 years of service. Illa was an inspiration to everyone who knew her. Her independence and determination never allowed her polio to prevent her from enjoying life and helping others. She was an avid reader, loved going on vacation and enjoyed going shopping and dining with her friends and family. She was also predeceased by her brother, Cleon W. Hoag; her nephew, David Hoag; and her lifetime friend, Edmund P. Wagner. Her brother, Clifford L. Hoag, of the town of Moreau, survives her. She was like a mother to her two nieces, Teryl L. McGowan and Cindi L. Kilmartin. In addition to Cindi and Teryl, she is survived by Teryl's husband, William E. McGowan, and Teryl's children, Michael P. McGowan and Tonya L. McGowan, of Moreau. She is also survived by Cindi's husband, Bruce Kilmartin and Cindi's children, Chad W. Kilmartin and Marikka L. Kilmartin, of Glens Falls. Her sister-in-law, Doris Hoag, as well as her children, Bruce, Byron, Sharon, Amy, Tammy, and their spouses and children, all of Gansevoort, also survive her. A funeral service will be held at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, April 16, 2005, at the Fortsville United Methodist Church, 42 Fortsville Road, Gansevoort. Burial will follow at the Gansevoort Cemetery.
