Born March 30, 1920, in Port Henry, he was the son of the late James H. and Helen K. (MacWilliams) Braisted. Mr. Braisted was a 1938 graduate of Hague Central School and attended Northeastern University of Boston. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served during World War II in the 760th Tank Battalion in Europe and Africa. He was honorably discharged in 1945. He married Grace E. "Betty" Densmore on June 24, 1946. Mr. Braisted was a lifelong resident of Silver Bay. Prior to his retirement, he was employed by the Silver Bay Association as a carpenter for 30 years. He was a former Hague Town Justice and a member of the Hague American Legion, Post No. 1538. He was a member (32nd Degree) of the Mt. Defiance Lodge No. 794, Free & Accepted Masons of Ticonderoga. Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Grace E. "Betty" Braisted; one son, James W. Braisted and his wife, Erica, of Silver Bay; and two daughters, Kathryn L. Santaniello and her husband, Sal, of Silver Bay, and Mary A. Kaier and her husband, William, of Queensbury. He is also survived by nine grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends may call Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Wilcox & Regan Funeral Home, 11 Algonkin St., Ticonderoga. The Mount Defiance Lodge of Ticonderoga will conduct ritualistic services at 7:30 p.m., Friday evening, at the funeral home. A funeral service will take place Saturday, 10 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church of Ticonderoga. The Rev. Prudence Bertolino, pastor, will officiate. Interment will follow at the family plot of the Valley View Cemetery of Ticonderoga. Donations in his memory may be made to the Hague Ambulance Squad, Hague, NY 12836, or High Peaks Hospice, P.O. Canavan, Blanche Helen QUEENSBURY -- Blanche Helen Canavan, 73, of Cedar Court, The Woodlyns, passed away on Wednesday, April 13, 2005, at home following a brief courageous battle with cancer. Born March 11, 1932, in Brooklyn, she was the daughter of the late John and Marcella (Nitkiewicz) Marcheleski. Blanche graduated from Kings County Hospital School of Nursing in 1952, at which time she began a lifelong career in nursing. She married her sweetheart, Raymond, on Sept. 24, 1955, in Queens. Blanche resided on Long Island until 1975, at which time she and her family moved to the Adirondack region. She, along with her husband, owned and operated the Green Haven Motel in Lake George, where she resided for 19 years, while continuing to work as a private duty nurse. Blanche was a communicant and Eucharistic Minister of the Sacred Heart Church in Lake George. She moved to Queensbury in 1998 in the home where she spent her final days surrounded by her loving family. Throughout her years in Queensbury, Blanche was a member of Our Lady of the Annunciation Parish. Blanche spent many years doing volunteer work for Caritas, Hospice, and most recently, Mary's Haven in Saratoga Springs, caring for the terminally ill. She put her heart and soul into her volunteer services and never wavered on her commitments. She loved to attend her grandchildren's school sporting events. She enjoyed playing racquetball, gardening, watching Yankee games and tennis matches, doing crossword puzzles, and playing scrabble with her husband, Raymond, especially at their favorite beach in Florida, where they often vacationed during the winter months. Blanche will be missed by all who knew and loved her. Besides her parents, Mrs. Canavan was predeceased by one son, Kevin J. Canavan, who died in 1975, and one brother, John Marcheleski. She is survived by her husband, Raymond F. Canavan Sr. of Queensbury; five children: Barbara Canavan of West Palm Beach, Fla., Patricia Sieber and her husband, Glenn, of Commack, Long Island, Annemarie "Amy" Sullivan and her husband, James, of Queensbury, Raymond F. Canavan Jr. and his wife, Kathleen, of Lake George, and Mark Canavan and his wife, Terri, of Lake George; one brother, Joseph Marcheleski of Berryville, Va.; one sister-in-law, Mary Burkitt of Cheyenne, Wyo.; six grandchildren: Amanda and Lauren Sieber, Alison and Kevin Canavan, and Tia and Ryan Sullivan; three nephews and one niece, Joseph, Brian, Christian and Edna Marcheleski. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Saturday, April 16, 2005, at Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church, 51 Mohican St., Lake George, with the Rev. Paul C. Cox and the Rev. Joseph E. Anselment officiating. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, today, at Regan and Denny Funeral Service, Inc., 53 Quaker Road, Queensbury, with arrangements under the direction of Stafford Funeral Home, Inc. of Lake George. Burial will be private. Published in the Post-Star on 4/15/2005. Green, Vernon N. "Bud" South Glens Falls/Florida -- Vernon "Bud" N. Green, 79, a resident of South Glens Falls, passed away on Monday, April 11, 2005, in West Palm Beach, Fla. Born on Dec. 6, 1925, in Moriah, N.Y., he was the son of Gordon and Agnes (Clodgo) Green. He graduated in 1939 from Port Henry High School, second in his class of 35. After graduation from high school, he attended Princeton University until Pearl Harbor Day. He then enlisted for two years with the U.S. Army. After returning home, Bud finished college and entered Albany Law School from where he graduated in 1951. Vernon (Bud) and Florence (Sis) M. Barber were married on Aug. 14, 1949. In an excerpt from the Congressional Record of July 13, 1994, Congressman Jerry Solomon honors Vernon Green with the following regarding his retirement: "Mr. Green graduated from the Albany Law School in 1951, and was admitted to the bar later that year. He began private practice in 1954. He subsequently served as South Glens Falls village justice from 1955 to 1975, South Glens Falls School district attorney from 1960 to 1994, and Moreau town attorney from 1956 to 1994. In those 39 years of service to the community, Mr. Green not only acquired a priceless grasp of local affairs, but conducted himself in a manner that brought credit to his profession. ... I would ask all the members to join me in the tribute to this outstanding attorney and great American." Mr. Green retired from the town and school in June 1994 and continued general practice to date. After overcoming many obstacles, Bud was able to enjoy his passions for golf, bridge and traveling with his wife. Together Bud and Sis wintered in Florida. Many organizations benefited from Vernon's membership, including American Legion from 1947, American Bar Association from 1989, Saratoga County Bar Association from 1954, Warren County Bar Association from 1952 and Holy Name Society of St. Michael for several years. The Rotary Club of South Glens Falls bestowed its top honor, a Paul Harris Fellowship, on him for recognition of his service. He was a member from 1954 to date, having served as a past president. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his son, James, who passed away in March 1969. Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Florence (Barber) Green of South Glens Falls, his daughter, Kathy Ann Green of South Glens Falls; and his sister, Constance Green of Arlington, Va. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m., on Saturday, April 16, 2005, at St. Michael the Archangel Church, 80 Saratoga Ave., South Glens Falls. Burial will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery in South Glens Falls. Family and friends are invited and may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., on Friday, April 15, 2005, at Regan & Denny Funeral Home, 94 Saratoga Ave., South Glens Falls. Gardiner Harris, 87, of Assembly Point, passed away Tuesday, April 12, 2005, unexpectedly at his residence. He was born on Aug. 19, 1917, in Delanson, N.Y., the son of the late Ernest and Margaret (Simpkins) Harris. Mr. Harris was very outgoing and friendly, always had a joke to tell. He loved to have a fire going in the fireplace and the company of all people gathered. Always there to give a helping hand to family and friends. He had a passion for golfing and enjoyed building and maintaining the family homestead. He always had a project going. He was an avid deer hunter and fisherman and was an honorary member of the "Thomas Gang Deer Hunting Club." His greatest joy was the time spent with his nine grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren at his home in Lake George. He will be greatly missed. He was a member of the B.P.O.E. Lodge No. 81 Glens Falls, and a member of the Quarter Century Club for General Electric, where he also trained through the GE Apprentice Program. Besides his parents he was predeceased by his sisters, Carolyn Pierce, Grace Berry, and Ruth Harris; as well as his brother, Henry Harris. Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Martha (Thomas) Harris of Assembly Point; his children, John G. Harris and his wife, Ginny, of New Hartford, N.Y.; Jackie Restle and her husband, Chuck, of Sauquoit, N.Y., and Joan Shults and her husband, Dean, of Linden, N.C.; nine grandchildren, Lisa (Restle) Hsieh, Jennifer and Jill Restle, Sharon Martin, Mike, Christopher and Susan Harris and Douglas and Kirsten Shults; and five great-grandchildren also survive him. Ptacek died unexpectedly on Thursday, April 14, 2005, at Glens Falls Hospital. Jean was born on Oct. 25, 1924, in White Plains, N.Y., the daughter of Leslie I. and Mildred (Townsend) DeVoe. Jean worked as an executive secretary for Young & Rubicon in New York City and American Can Company of Greenwich, Conn. for many years. She was a former member of the St. Paul's Methodist Church in Hartsdale, N.Y. and most recently a member of the Bible Baptist Independence Church in North Hebron. Jean was married to John C. Ptacek Jr. for 58 years. They traveled extensively throughout the United States together to attend many Marine Corps. reunions and to attend reunions of the USS Mobile and USS South Dakota. In addition to her husband, Jean is survived by a son, John "Chuck" Ptacek III of Hebron; and a daughter, Leslie Jean Jessee and her husband, Randy, of Phoenix, Ariz. Also a granddaughter, Crystal Jean Ptacek. A funeral service will be held on Monday, April 18, 2005, at 10 a.m. at Robert M. King Funeral Home, 23 Church St., Granville, with the Rev. Joseph Bouchard officiating. Burial will be at 1 p.m. at the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, 200 Duell Road in Schuylerville.
