She was a resident of Wesley Nursing Home in Saratoga Springs for the past three years. Before that, she was a resident of Glens Falls. She was born in Glens Falls on Jan. 11, 1921, the daughter of Kenneth and Helen (Duchaine) Bailey. Clara was a communicant of St. Alphonsus Church in Glens Falls. She attended Glens Falls High School and worked at Troy Shirtmakers Guild, until her retirement. Clara was a fun-loving person, always ready with a joke. She had no children of her own, but was affectionately know to her many nieces and nephews as Auntie or Nanny. Aside from her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Damian DelSignore; brothers, Nelson Bailey, Louis Bailey, William Bailey, Richard Bailey, Ronald Bailey; and a sister, Mary (Bailey) Weller. Survivors include her sisters, Betty (Bailey) DelSignore, Theresa (Bailey) Burch, of Glens Falls, and Shirley (Bailey) Montero, of South Glens Falls; and several nieces and nephews. There will be no calling hours. A private family service will be held at the convenience of the family. Interment will be held at St. Alphonsus Cemetery in Queensbury. The family suggests that memorials in her remembrance be made to the charity of one's choice. Arrangements have been made by Singleton-Healy Funeral Home, 407 Bay Road, Queensbury. Published in the Post-Star on 4/16/2005. Linke, Charles O. "Chuck" Salem -- Charles O. "Chuck" Linke, 79, died Thursday, April 14, 2005, at Hillcrest Commons in Pittsfield, Mass., where he had been a resident since November of 2004. He was born in Manhattan, Aug. 30, 1925, son of Oscar and Paula (Giljohann) Linke. Chuck spent his early years in Yonkers and later moved to Arlington, Vt., where his father was superintendent for the Hale Furniture Co. As a youth, Chuck recalled delivering picture frames for Hale's to Norman Rockwell in Arlington. After graduating from the Arlington High School, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and served in World War II from 1944 to 1946 in Germany as an interpreter. Chuck was wounded twice during his tour of duty and ended the war in a German hospital. After the war, Chuck attended the University of Vermont. He then worked for several furniture companies and in the early '50s he founded the Shushan Bentwood Furniture Company which he operated until his death. Through his business, he cultivated friendships throughout the world. He was known internationally for his expertise in woodworking and furniture making. Besides woodworking, Chuck enjoyed fly fishing in the Batten Kill, bowling and attending football games at West Point. He was a member of the Francis J. Clark American Legion Post 812 in Salem. Survivors include his wife of 42 years, Muriel (Ennis) Linke and one son, Charles A. Linke, both of Salem; three stepsons, Terry Durrin of Richmond, Va., Nicholas and Reginald Durrin, both of Salem; one sister, Eleanor Bandel of Shushan; one niece; several stepgrandchildren and many friends at the Albany VA and Hillcrest Commons. Services will be private at the convenience of the family. There will be no calling hours. Burial will be in the Gerald B. H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery in Schuylerville. Pratt, 73, of state Route 149, went to be with the Lord, peacefully in her sleep, at the home of her daughter, Lynn, in Norlina, N.C., on Thursday, April 14, 2005. Elizabeth was born on April 6, 1932, in Hudson Falls, the daughter of the late Allen O. and Phebe (Dutcher) Wilcox. For 26 years she was employed by Sherwood Medical, formerly in Argyle. Elizabeth was a member of the North Granville United Methodist Church. She loved spending time with her family and especially with her grandchildren and great- grandchildren. She also loved her dog, Sadie. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her son, Keith Nelson Pratt; and two sisters, Carrie Goodspeed and Bertha Riordan. Survivors include her children, Gail Whalen and her husband, Tim, of Granville, Lynn Conlee and her husband, Scott, of Norlina, N.C.; and Scott Pratt of Troy; seven grandchildren, Renee White and her husband, Thomas, of Argyle, Christopher VanDoran and his fiance‚, Tammi Skellie, of South Glens Falls, Tanya Pratt and her fiance‚, Alan Dubois Jr., of Glens Falls, Jason Pratt of Glens Falls, Michael and David Davis and McKenzie Conlee of Norlina, N.C.; six great-grandchildren, Megan, Kaitlin and Sarah White, of Argyle, Dyllon, Ashana and Dravin Pratt of Glens Falls; a brother, George Wilcox and his wife, Louise, of Queensbury; a daughter-in-law, Peggy Pratt of Queensbury; and several nieces and cousins. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. on Sunday at Carleton Funeral Home, Inc. 68 Main St. in Hudson Falls. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Stephen McLean, pastor of the Argyle United Presbyterian Church, officiating. Burial will follow at Union Cemetery, Upper Broadway, in the town of Fort Edward. Bearers will be Christopher VanDoran, David Davis, Michael Davis, Jason Pratt, Thom White and Alan Dubois Jr. The family suggests that memorial donations be made to the Hartford First Responders, P.O. Prosser, John Jay Warrensburg -- John Jay Prosser, 81, of Stacey Street, Warrensburg, passed away Thursday evening, April 14, 2005, at Glens Falls Hospital following a long illness. Born Sept. 1, 1923, at the old homestead on Prosser Road, Lake George, he was the son of the late Leslie and Bertha (Pratt) Prosser. He attended the North Caldwell one-room schoolhouse through grade school, leaving at a young age to help take care of his family chores. While drinking soda and listening to the jukebox at Mike's Diner on Main Street in Warrensburg, he met Gertrude J. Crandall, and later married her Dec. 22, 1947, at Warrensburg United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Frank Cubit officiating. John continued to be a self-employed hard worker, working mainly in the woods hauling pulp, or as a laborer for various businesses in the area, until his retirement in 1983. In John's younger years, he always looked forward to weekend square dancing at the Ye Ole Barn on High Street in Athol. He also enjoyed fishing, smoking his pipe, playing poker, looking for a dream in the Lottery tickets, drinking a beer or two while listening to country music, and talking of the good old times with family and friends. Most recently, he and his wife, Gert, were often seen at Bill's Restaurant in Warrensburg drinking coffee, enjoying the evening with the local folks. Whatever John did, it was always centered around his large family of kids, grandkids and friends acting as the hub in the center of a large wheel. We will miss you so much, Poppy! Besides his parents, a son, Robert Tennant; a brother, Winston Prosser; a sister-in-law, Ruth Prosser; and a brother-in-law, Herbert Wood; all predeceased him. Survivors include his loving wife, Gertrude Prosser, of 58 close years; three sons, John Tennant and his wife, Sandra, Dennis Prosser and his wife, Doris, and Clint Prosser and his wife, Virginia, all of Warrensburg; five daughters, Patty Bills and her companion, Bobby Hayes, Marsha Barrett and her husband, Leo, Brenda Johnson, all of Warrensburg, Susie Decarli of Lake Luzerne, and Shelly Goucher and her husband, Phil, of Hadley; 32 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; three brothers, Leslie Prosser Jr. and his wife, Ruth, of Warrensburg, Curtis Prosser of North Creek, and Orlin Prosser of Connecticut; one sister, Ruth Wood of Athol; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and close friends. Friends may call upon the family Tuesday, April 19, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Maynard D. Baker Funeral Home, 11 Lafayette St., Queensbury. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. at the funeral home immediately following the calling hours, with the Rev. Alan Brokaw of the Presbyterian Church of Warrensburg, officiating. Burial will take place at Warrensburg Cemetery, Warrensburg, following the funeral service. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the Warrensburg Emergency Squad for their many responses to John's home, and necessary trips to the Glens Falls Hospital, and to the staff at 3WB Oncology Unit at Glens Falls Hospital, for their care and comfort provided to John in his last few months.
