"Rudy" North Creek -- Rudolph "Rudy" W. Goodspeed, 82, formerly of Osborne Street, passed away Sunday morning, April 17, 2005, at the Adirondack Tri-County Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in North Creek after a lengthy illness. Born Jan. 22, 1923, in North Creek, he was the son of the late Jay and Mabel (Richards) Goodspeed. Rudy lived most of his life in North Creek and graduated from North Creek High School in 1941. He attended a machinist school in Auburn and worked in a machine factory in New Britain, Conn. He retired from Baton Mines Corp. after 19 1/2 years as a machinist and core driller. Rudolph served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was a Darby Ranger, of Company F, 3rd Infantry Battalion. While serving in the European Theater under Col. Darby, Rudy was wounded and received the Purple Heart, along with other honorable medals. He was a lifelong member of the Disabled American Veterans. Rudy married Muriel LaVergne of Indian Lake. He bought their home in North Creek and the couple raised three children. He enjoyed living in North Creek and the Adirondacks and was active in skiing, bowling, basketball, and baseball. Survivors besides his beloved wife of over 52 years, include his two sons, Douglas Goodspeed of Waldorf, Md., Charles Goodspeed of Johnsburg; his daughter, Deborah Fitzgerald and her husband, John, of Meredith, N.H.; two grandchildren, Danielle and David Goodspeed, one great-granddaughter, Michaela Cronin; several nieces, nephews, and cousins. His brother, Sterling Goodspeed and his wife, Jane; his sister, Miriam Hitchcock and her husband, Neil, have all predeceased him. Friends may call on Rudy's family from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday, at Alexander Funeral Home, Inc, 4479 State Route 28, North River. Funeral services will follow the visitation at 1 p.m. Wednesday, at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Union Cemetery, North Creek. "Rik" Hustler, 57, a resident of Dudley Place, Bennington, Vt., died suddenly Saturday, April 16, 2005, at Jump Town in Orange, Mass. Rik died of natural causes following a day of sky diving in Orange. Born in Hoosick Falls, N.Y., April 8, 1948, he received his education in the Hoosick Falls Schools. Rik married the former Hattie Aldrich on April 11, 1975, at the First Baptist Church in Bennington. In earlier years Rik had been employed at various jobs in the Bennington area. At the time of his death he was employed at K & K Car Wash. An avid sky diver for the past thirty years, Rik had jumped in Orange, Mass., Addison, Vt., and Duanesberg, N.Y. An avid outdoorsman he enjoyed hunting, fishing and horse riding. He also drew sketches, painted and liked reading science fiction. Survivors include his wife, Hattie Hustler of Bennington, Vt.; a son, Darby Joe Hustler of Fort Myers, Fla.; a daughter, Wensdee Camp and her husband, Brad, and their daughter, Leia, all of Brunswick, Ga.; an aunt, Marjorie Varley and a cousin, Nancy Meek and her husband, John and their family, all of Greenwich; several nieces, nephews and cousins. Rik was predeceased by his mother, Virginia (Hall) Hustler; and his grandmother, Mary Beadle who help raised him from an early age. Memorial services celebrating the life of Rik Hustler will be held from the Mahar & Son Funeral Home in Bennington on Wednesday, April 20, 2005, at 2:30 p.m. with the Rev. Norma Drosky, pastor of the First Baptist Church in Bennington officiating. Friends are invited to pay their respects to the family at the funeral home on Wednesday from 1 p.m. until the time of the service. Private committal services will take place at the family lot in Glebe View Cemetery, South Londonderry. Should friends desire contributions in Richard J. Monroe, Edith "Edie" Schroon Lake -- Edith "Edie" Monroe, 81, of Alder Meadow Road, was called Home by her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, on Sunday, April 17, 2005, while at her home, which was very near the Shufelt homestead where she was born and raised. Born June 8, 1923, she was the daughter of the late Robert and Elsie (Rickert) Shufelt. She attended Schroon Lake Central School graduating salutatorian of her class in 1942. Following graduation, she married Owen J. Monroe of Ticonderoga, on July 17, 1942. As a life-time resident of Schroon Lake, Edie served in many volunteer capacities including being a member of the Schroon Lake Board of Education, the Schroon Lake Historical Society, a long standing member of the Severance Cemetery Association, and also attended Mountainside Bible Chapel for many years. Cheney Originals, a company that designed and produced high-end Christmas ornaments, was where Edie was employed for many years handcrafting these beautiful ornaments that were only sold in exclusive stores. For the most part, Edie was privileged to stay at home knitting, reading, and caring for her family, which she took so much pride in. Besides her parents, Edie was predeceased by her loving husband of 54 years, Owen Monroe, who passed away in 1996; one son, Robert Monroe, who passed away in 1981; a great-granddaughter, Susan, who passed at birth; four sisters, Sadie, Lillian, Violet, Edna, and their spouses; and five brothers, Arthur, Winfred, Herbert, Robert, and their spouses, and Lawrence Shufelt. Survivors include one son, Owen Monroe Jr. and his wife, Marilyn, of Gansevoort; one daughter, Suzanne Allen and her husband, Henry, of Schroon Lake; three grandchildren, Owen Monroe III and his wife, Kelley, of Savannah, Ga., Amy Weidner and her husband, Chad, of Camp LeJeune, N.C., currently serving in Iraq, Tammy Lienhart of Schroon Lake; eight great-grandchildren, Jacqueline, Owen IV, Jacob, Evan, Robert, Cristy, Cody, Dustin, and one great-grandchild soon-to-be-born; one sister-in-law, Leona Shufelt of Schroon Lake; nieces, nephews, and many dear friends. Friends may call upon the family Tuesday, April 19, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at Edward L. Kelly Funeral Home, 1019 Route 9, Schroon Lake. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 20, at the funeral home with Rev. Douglas Mieras, associate pastor of Mountainside Bible Chapel of Schroon Lake, officiating. Burial will be at Severance Cemetery, Schroon Lake, immediately following the funeral service. Roberts, 89, of Fourth Street, South Glens Falls, died Friday, April 15, 2005, at Glens Falls Hospital. Born Oct. 11, 1915, in Point AuRoche, N.Y., she was the daughter of the late Lloyd and Ruth (Moore) Vosburgh. Nita and her late husband, Armand, owned and operated A.J. Laundromat in South Glens Falls for many years. Nita was predeceased by her husband, Armand O. Roberts, who died in 1990; her aunt, Esther Millard and her sister, Beatrice Vosburgh, who both died in 2000; her son-in-law, William (Bill) Potter and her Aunt Juanita Millard, who both died in 2004. Survivors include her daughter, Sheila Potter of South Carolina; her cousin Beverly Ripley of Argyle; her granddaughter, Nancy Walsh and her husband, Brian, of Rensselaer; her grandson, Jeffrey Major and his wife, Donna, of Charlton, N.Y.; and her great-grandchildren: Michael Major of North Carolina, Marie Major of Massachusetts, and Alan Croft of Charlton, N.Y. Their will be no calling hours at the request of the family. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, April 21, at M.B. Kilmer Funeral Home, 136 Main St., South Glens Falls, with the Rev. Father C. Michael Abraham, pastor of the Chapel of the Archangel Gabriel, officiating. Burial will follow at Southside Cemetery.
