GRANVILLE -- Brian M. Douglas, age 26, passed away on Friday, April 22, 2005, as the result of an automobile accident. Brian was born on Aug. 22, 1978, in Cambridge, the son of Gary and Patricia (Briggs) Douglas. He was a 1997 graduate of Granville High School and the Modern School of Welding in Schenectady. He was employed by Russell Industries in Glens Falls, as a welder. Brian was an auto enthusiast and enjoyed spending time working on his 4x4. He and his friend, Josh Nowak, who also perished in the accident, were intending to start their own welding and fabrication shop in the future. Brian knew well the importance of family, and cherished his. He was predeceased by his paternal grandparents, Raymond and Effie Douglas. Survivors in addition to his parents, Gary and Pat Douglas, are his sister, Rebecca Douglas and her companion, Donald McClure; his girlfriend, Leigh Wilson; his maternal grandparents, Nelson and Edna Briggs; two uncles, Wayne Douglas of Rutland and Rick Briggs of Petersburg, N.Y.; six aunts: Marlene Stoddard and Marilyn Loomis, both of Granville, Dolores Corlew of Gansevoort, Kathy Falcetta of Granville, Ruth Briggs of Argyle, and Diane LaGoy of Cambridge; and several cousins. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, May 1, at Robert M. King Funeral Home, 23 Church St., Granville. Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday, April 30, at the funeral home. Piper, Louise Emma (Cushman) BENNINGTON, Vt. -- Louise Emma (Cushman) Piper, 94, a resident of 515 Gage St., died Sunday evening, April 24, 2005, at Crescent Manor Care Centers following a lengthy illness. Born in Irasburg on Feb. 28, 1911, she was the daughter of the late David Elsworth and Laura (Comstock) Cushman. She grew up in Irasburg where she attended local schools. She was married to Vernard J. Piper in Keene, N.H., on Sept. 9, 1935. He predeceased her in 1947. She and her husband had lived in Bennington since 1935, coming from Morgan. She had assisted her husband in the operation of his Jeep agency, had worked in the office at the former Happy Cookin Gas Co. for 18 years and then in the office and as a teller at Chittenden Bank, from which she retired. She was a volunteer with the American Red Cross, enjoyed tending to her vegetable and flower gardens, especially her pansies, which she took great pride in. She and her husband built a camp in Peru, where many of the family summered and made many fond memories. She enjoyed deer hunting at the camp and hunting with her nephew, Floyd Perkins' family in New York. She enjoyed music and her favorite saying was "Oh what a great big beautiful world. Oh it's beautiful." She leaves her niece, Mrs. (Floyd) Ardell Perkins of North Creek; great- nieces, and nephews, Anna and Phillip Goodman of Johnsburg, Donna and Robert Gross of North Augusta, S.C., Terry and Cynthia Perkins of Chestertown, Kathleen and Richard TenEyck of Olmstedville, Keith Perkins of North Creek, and Tamara and Brian Sponable of North Creek, the Kenneth Piper family, 15 great-great-nieces and nephews, and three great-great-great-nephews and cousins. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by a sister, Anna Perkins; a nephew, Floyd Perkins, and a stepson, Kenneth Piper. A service of remembrance will be held on Saturday, April 30, at 2 p.m. at Hanson-Walbridge Funeral Home, 213 West Main St., Bennington, Vt. Rehm, Phillip Jean CLEMONS -- Phillip Jean Rehm, 76, of Pike Book Road, passed away on Thursday, April 21, 2005, at his home surrounded by his family and friends. Born on June 28, 1928, in Whitehall, he was the son of the late Harold and Edna (Hyatt) Rehm. Phillip was a longtime resident of Clemons, and will be missed by all who knew and loved him. He was predeceased by a daughter, Joan Eileen; a son, P. Jacob; and a brother, Alton Rehm. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Betty Rehm of Clemons; his eldest daughter, Judith Fitzgerald of Columbia, Tenn.; his youngest son, Jonathan Rehm of Clemons; his grandchildren: Tammy Seaborn of Jackson, Tenn., Phillip Rehm of Clemons, Heather Paul of West Rutland, Vt., and Samantha Rehm of Clemons; his great-grandson, Jaymes Seaborn of Jackson, Tenn.; one brother, Edward Rehm and his wife, Ella, of Clemons; three sisters, Josie Kamuda of Wallingford, Vt., Allie Barber of Clemons and Edna Rehm of Granville; and many nieces and nephews. Sherman, a lifelong resident of Clarks Mills, in the town of Greenwich, passed away Wednesday, April 27, 2005, at his daughters' home after a long illness. He was the son of Harold and Beatrice Sherman. He was a veteran of World War II, where he served his country as a pilot in the Army Air Corp, serving in the Burma, India, and China Theatre as a first lieutenant. For his service, he received an air medal with three oak leaf clusters and a Distinguished Flying Cross with two oak leaf clusters and recently received the New York state Conspicuous Service Cross. Mr. Sherman was an employee of Hollingsworth & Vose, where he worked for 35 years before retiring. He was a member of the Greenwich Post of the American Legion for 42 years. He enjoyed thoroughbred horse racing, and was an active outdoorsman, hunting and fishing. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a brother, Charles Sherman. Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Jeanne (Buckbee) Sherman; one son, John A. Sherman of Rochester; one daughter, Joy (Sherman) Mollnow and her husband, Paul, of East Greenwich; two grandchildren, John W. Sherman of Mexico, N.Y., and Emily Mollnow of East Greenwich; one great-grandson, Aidan Sherman of Mexico, N.Y.; one nephew, Charles Sherman of Schuylerville; two nieces, Bonnie Chretian of Schuylerville and Linda (Buckbee) Selleck of California. Spiezio, 78, a resident of Galesville Road, died Wednesday, April 27, 2005, at her home. Born Feb. 14, 1927, in Greenwich, she was the daughter of George and Mary Barbur Lamb. She married Louis Spiezio on March 6, 1943, and for many years was a homemaker raising her family. Alice was a former employee of the Golden Fleece Paper Mill in Greenwich, the local 5 & 10 cent store, and retired from the Kmart Department Store in Greenwich. Her many joys were her beloved children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, the New York Yankees and her cat, Ali. She enjoyed crocheting and made many beautiful baby blankets. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Louis Spiezio, great-grandchildren, Casey Spiezio and James Davis, and a brother, George Lamb. Survivors include two daughters, Alice Morgan and her husband, Charles, of Canton, Mich., and Theresa Seabury and her husband, Rob, of Greenwich; two sons, Gary Spiezio and his wife, Nancy, of Greenwich, and George Spiezio and his wife, Marilyn, of Greenwich; two sisters, Harriet Wilson of Scotia, and Helena Loy of Greenwich; 12 grandchildren: Gary Morgan, Caroline Massey, Catherine Morgan, Scott Spiezio, Craig Spiezio, Ted Spiezio, Melissa Steen, Kristin Steen, Megan Davis, Ben Smith, Brieanna Smith, and Kyle Seabury; eight great-grandchildren: Caitlyn Carmichael, Victoria Massey, Nicholas Massey, Connor Spiezio, Haley Spiezio, Caden Hall, Jacob Davis, and Reegan Mullen; and several nieces and nephews. Williams, Cindy Lee Middle Granville -- Cindy Lee Williams, 47, died Tuesday evening, April 26, 2005, at her sister's home in Lyndon, Vt. Cindy was born May 31, 1957, in Granville, the daughter of Fred A. Williams Sr. and Mary J. (Ritchie) Williams. She was a graduate of Granville High School with the Class of 1975. One of Cindy's greatest joys in life was her work in the retail business. In 1976, Cindy began a 24 1/2 year career with the Grand Union Co. Upon their closing in 2001, Cindy started her second career in the retail business with the Cumberland Farms Co. Cindy also worked as a computer instructor at Community Technology Center, a federally sponsored grant program at Community Workshop, Inc. Her hobbies included gardening, learning computer software programs, photography, stamp collecting and putting together family tree books of both her parents' families. Cindy also enjoyed the pleasure of having a very close friendship circle. She is survived by her sister, with whom she made her home, Mary June Williams of Lyndon, Vt.; two brothers, Fred A. Williams Jr. of Baltimore, Md. and Douglas Williams of Fair Haven, Vt.; one nephew; and several aunts, uncles and cousins. Cindy is also survived by her close friends, Andrea, Hutch, Mary Kay, Linda, Royanne, Karen L. and Karen B. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by a sister, Patricia F. Williams, in 1992. Funeral services will be conducted on Friday, April 29, 2005, at 11 a.m. at Durfee Funeral Home, 119 North Main St., Fair Haven, Vt. The Rev. Williams, Velma Belle Starkman "Gram" SARATOGA SPRINGS -- Velma "Gram" Belle Starkman Williams, of Lee Drive, died Monday, April 25, 2005, at Wesley Health Care Center, Lawrence Street. She was 91. Born on June 11, 1913, in Schenectady, she was a daughter of the late Sidney and Florence (Haverly) Starkman. She had worked as an account clerk with the Municipal Housing Authority in Schenectady and was a graduate of Schenectady High School. An avid bowler and golfer, she enjoyed teaching her four grandchildren the game of golf and also enjoyed her camp in Lake Luzerne. She was a member of the Ballston Spa Country Club and the Schenectady-Scotia Women's Bowling Association In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Russell H. Williams, who died in 1961; three brothers, one sister, one son-in-law, Alan Gardner, and a granddaughter, Amy Elizabeth Chubb. Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Barbara Chubb and her husband, Clayton Chubb, of Saratoga Springs, and Margaret Gardner of Arcadia, Fla., and Lake Luzerne; four grandchildren: Scott Gardner and his wife, Jenn, of Cumberland, Maine, Tim Gardner and his friend, Adrienne Perez, of Ballston Spa, Chris Chubb of Martinsburg, W.Va., and Beth Roberts and her husband, Matthew, of Gansevoort; two great-grandchildren, Jerod and Liam Gardner, both of Cumberland, Maine; and several nieces and nephews. Special thanks to the nursing staff at Wesley Health Care Center and to Peggy Abbondandolo, Nancy Moran and Bobbie Allen.
