Born on Aug. 16, 1947, in Glens Falls, she was the daughter of James Butterfield and Mary (LaCivita) Butterfield. Mary Jane was a graduate of Saint Mary's Academy. She had been married to David F. Daley for 25 years. Mary Jane was a former human resources manager, at Honeywell Inc., Brighton and Newton, Mass., from 1970 to 1982. Mary Jane was the beloved wife of 25 years to David F. Daley; devoted mother of Holli M. of Boston, Mass., Jessica M., James B. and Rebecca M. all of Jenkintown, Pa.; loving daughter of James and Mary (LaCivita) Butterfield, of Glens Falls. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. today at Immaculate Conception Church in Jenkintown, Pa. Family and friends are invited to the interment on Friday, Aug. 5, at 11 a.m. at St. Mary's Cemetery, South Glens Falls. Fleming, Helena PHOENIX, Ariz. -- Helena Fleming, 80, of Phoenix, Ariz., passed away Friday, July 29, 2005, at her home in Phoenix, Ariz., after a short illness. Born on April 20, 1925, in Glens Falls, she was the daughter of the late Franklin and Luella Root. She was employed by Binley Florist for 30 years. Helena was married to Al Fleming, who has already predeceased her. She was a member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, in Whitehall. Helena loved visiting with her family and friends. Besides her parents and husband, she was predeceased by her brothers and sister, George Root, Eleanor Feezer, Franklin Root, and Clarence Root. She is survived by one sister, Anna Healy of Gansevoort; one brother, Charles Feezer of Florida; four daughters and two sons: Carol Holcomb of Hebron, Robert Carpenter of Schenectady, Donna Fabio of Phoenix, Ariz., Sharon Meuse of Whitehall, Richard Carpenter of Hartford, and Patricia Ross of Saratoga; 18 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. West Yarmouth, Mass. -- Hugh R. Gilbert, 77, formerly of Hudson Falls and Chestertown, died Monday, Aug. 1, 2005, at his home after along illness. Born in Thornton Heath, England, on May 16, 1928, he was the son of the late Roland and Katherine (Reynolds) Gilbert. Mr. Gilbert was a retired surveyor with Rist Frost of Glens Falls. Hugh immigrated from England to Canada, then finally settling in Chestertown in the Early 1950s. During the 1960s he moved to Hudson Falls with his wife and family. After he retired, he settled in West Yarmouth, Mass. His hobbies included gardening, reading, collecting Bibles and music. His favorite instrument was the flute. He was predeceased by his wife, Janice Rankin Gilbert, four brothers, Peter, Michael, Edward, and John Gilbert; also one sister, Jean Gilbert. Survivors include three sons, Benjamin Gilbert and his wife, Kathy, of Georgia, Vt., Daniel Gilbert and his wife, Marguerite, of Essex Junction, David Gilbert of Comstock; three daughters, Rebecca Healy and her husband, Michael, of Durham, N.C., Sara Connelly of West Yarmouth, Mass., Rachel Gilbert of West Yarmouth, Mass.; four brothers, William Gilbert and his wife, Doris, of Syracuse, Brian Gilbert and his wife, Joan, of Antioch, Calif., Dominic Gilbert and his wife, Vera, of Rensselaer, N.Y., Christopher Gilbert and his wife, Pamela, of Fort Ann; three sisters, Mary Baker and her husband, John, of Houston, Texas, Anne Drolet and her husband, Leonard, of Fort Mills, S.C., Louise Kruse and her husband, Richard, of Merritt Island, Fla., and Chestertown; also five grandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 6, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Chestertown, with the Rev. George Fleming, pastor, officiating. Griffen, 65, a resident of Gansevoort Road, died Monday, Aug. 1, 2005, at Glens Falls Hospital surrounded by her loving family at her bedside. Born May 14, 1940, in Middle Falls, N.Y., she was the daughter of the late Otis and Elma Darling Brownell. Edie was a graduate of Greenwich Central School and married Seth C. Griffen on July 28, 1962. She was a communicant of Saint Michael the Archangel Church in South Glens Falls and was a past member and president of the Rosary Altar Society and past member of the Parish Council of the church. Edie was a retired member of the Board of Realtors of Warren County. She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother, and took great pride in her family's accomplishments. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by two sisters, Doris Gard and Evelyn Brownell; two brothers, Richard and Roland Brownell. Survivors include her husband, Seth C. Griffen of Fort Edward; her children, Stephen Griffen and his wife, Emma of Saratoga Springs, Michele Head and her husband, Cliff, of Owensboro, Ky.; Bill Griffen and his wife, Susan, of South Glens Falls, and Carla Curran and her husband, Joseph, of South Glens Falls; three sisters, Maxine Munger and husband, Frank, of Gansevoort, Janice Frisbe of Ocala, Fla., and Violet Tobin and husband, William, of Poultney, Vt.; one brother, Frank Brownell and wife, Pam, of Kalamazoo, Mich.; and grandchildren, Kayleah and Laurel Griffen, Savannah and Seth Maxberry, Aubren, Joshua, and Scarlett Head, Jordan and Joshua Ryan Griffen, and Griffen Curran. Kaufmann, Carolyn Weill North River -- Carolyn Weill Kaufmann, 88, cherished wife of the late Ted Kaufmann, passed away suddenly on Thursday, July 28, 2005. Born in New York City, she graduated from Pine Manor Junior College. Carolyn studied ballet and opera singing and cultivated a lifelong love of music and the arts. While the family lived in Roslyn, N.Y., she was an inspiring Brownie and Girl Scout leader. Throughout her life, she was adopted by folks of all ages as a surrogate mother. She and Ted began their winter pilgrimages to the North Creek Ski Bowl in the early 1940s. They bought their home, Bewilderness, in 1967 and retired there in 1978. Carolyn immediately became active in local organizations, donating her time, efforts and famous punch at countless community events, including the Johnsburg Historical Society, the Audubon Society, the White Water Races, River Beautification Project, the Upper Hudson Environmental Group, the North River Fire Department as well as the American Society of Dowsers, national and local chapters. Carolyn lived an incredibly full and impassioned life, beloved by her family, giving us all adoration and encouragement, doing generous things for everyone who knew her and living her dream in the wooded beauty of Bewilderness. She will be profoundly missed by her daughters, Kate Hickok Feldman and husband, John; Julie Kaufmann; Deborah Kaufmann and husband, Garry Nichols; her grandchildren: Heather Hickok Ferguson, Andrew Hickok and Rafer Nichols; her nieces, Robby Lynn Patterson and Joan Feigus and her ever extending family. To honor this elegant and gracious hostess, who always made everyone feel at home, her family will celebrate her life and share memories at an Open House from 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 6, at the Tannery Pond Community Center, Main Street, North Creek. Palmer, Evelyn (Jones) GLENS FALLS -- Evelyn (Jones) Palmer, 94, of Auburn Place, passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 31, 2005, at Glens Falls Hospital. Born on Oct. 11, 1910, in Lisbon, N.Y., she was the daughter of the late Bert and Adah (Tracy) Jones. In 1928, Evelyn graduated from Canton High School and continued her education at the New York State School of Agriculture in Canton, graduating in 1931. She completed a six-month Dietetic Internship at Yonkers General Hospital from October 1931 to April of 1932. Evelyn later received her B.S. in home economics at the University of Vermont in Burlington. On Jan. 17, 1942, she married Malcolm W. Palmer in St. Albans, Vt. He passed away on March 14, 1980. Evelyn lived in Chester, Vt., from 1942 to 1996, when she moved to Glens Fails to be near her daughter. From 1934 to 1943, Evelyn was a dietitian at the Rutland Hospital, St. Albans Hospital and Springfield Hospital, all in Vermont. When her daughter started school, she began working for the Chester school lunch program. From 1956 to 1962, Evelyn worked at Freda's Bake Shop. In 1963, she returned to her career working as an assistant dietitian at Springfield Hospital. Also during this time, she was a consulting dietitian at Mount Ascutney Hospital in Windsor, Hanson Court Convalescent Center in Springfield, Gill Home in Ludlow, and Lincoln Street in Springfield, all in Vermont. She was an active member of the Chester Congregational Church in Chester, Vt., where she helped with bake sales, chicken pie suppers and other church activities. Evelyn was also a member of the Eastern Star in Chester and a member of the American Dietetic Association. She loved tending to her flower and vegetable gardens, baking doughnuts, pies, and cakes and preserving fruits, vegetables and pickles. In later years, Evelyn also enjoyed having tag sales at her home. She maintained her many friendships through caring letters, phone calls and visits. Evelyn was a very down to earth, kind, and caring woman who will be greatly missed by her family and friends. Besides her parents and her husband, her sister, Ersel Jones, also predeceased Evelyn. She is survived by her daughter, Elayne Leonelli and her husband, Neil, of Glens Falls; her cousins, Marion Jordan and Eloie Bartholomew of Canton and Winifred Fife and her husband, Jim, of Madrid, Kermit Exelby and his wife, Avis, of Fabius, Ellen Tracy Haner and her husband, Joseph, of Canandaigua, David Tracy of Rensselaer Falls, Stephen Maier and his wife, Edre, of Sheridan, Wyo., Laurie Kaplan of Newburgh, Mary Bleau of Wappingers Falls and Kathryn Robb and her husband, Kurt, of Poughkeepsie; her husband's niece, Grace Long, of Ocala, Fla. and nephew, Charles Angel, of Wallingford, Vt.; and several great-nieces and great-nephews. Graveside services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Aug. 4, 2005, at Fairview Cemetery in Canton, N.Y., with the Rev. Deane Perkins of the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Glens Falls officiating. Trainor, Doris Helen TICONDEROGA -- Doris Helen Trainor, 80, formerly of Alexandria Avenue and most recently of the Inter Lakes Adult Home, passed away Tuesday, Aug. 2, 2005, at the Inter Lakes Hospital of Ticonderoga. Born in Ticonderoga, Oct., 21, 1924, she was the daughter of Henry and Rita Curtis Bezio. Mrs. Trainor has been a lifelong resident of Ticonderoga. She was a communicant of St. Mary's Church. Mrs. Trainor was predeceased by her husband, Arthur L. Trainor and a son, Leverne Trainor. Survivors include two daughters, Colleen T. Wells and her husband, James, and Laurie J. Flack and her husband, Edwin, both of Ticonderoga. She is also survived by three brothers, Vernel Bezio of Dresden, John Bezio of Fort Edward, and Rolland Bezio of Ticonderoga; other survivors include four grandsons, James L. Wells Jr., Jeffrey S. Wells, Jay P. Wells and his wife, Kristina, and Joseph C. Wells; and several nieces and nephews.
