FORT EDWARD and LARGO, Fla. -- Jean E. Bowe, 83, of Seminary Street, Fort Edward, died Thursday, Aug. 11, 2005, at Fort Hudson Nursing Home. Born on Oct. 12, 1921, in Fort Edward, she was the daughter of William and Margaret (Campbell) Etu. Mrs. Bowe married Joseph E. Bowe Jr. on Dec. 30, 1944, in St. Joseph's Church, with the Rev. John Fox officiating. She retired from United Merchants (Decora) in 1986. Mrs. Bowe was a communicant of St. Joseph's Church, Fort Edward and St. Catherine's of Siena, Largo, Fla., and was a member of the Catholic Daughters of America. She loved gardening and working around her homes in Fort Edward and in Largo, Fla. Mrs. Bowe was predeceased by her husband, Joseph E. Bowe Jr,. and her parents. She was also predeceased by her brothers, Peter, John, William and Roger Etu, and her sisters, Eleanor Etu, Margaret McCarty, and Mary Rose Higgins. Survivors include her children: Jeanne Bowe of Fort Edward, Joseph E. Bowe III and his wife, Julie, of Glens Falls, William J. Bowe, Esq., and his wife, Maureen, of Allenhurst, N.J., Margaret Whiting and her husband, Jeffrey, of Waldorf, Md., and Peter M. Bowe of Rexford; her sisters, Patricia Etu and Helen Rourke; 12 grandchildren: Scott J. Bowe, Christopher M. Bowe, Julie N. Humphries, Ryan D. Marcantonio, Matthew J. Marcantonio, Kelly M. Flammia, Kevin W. Bowe, J. Daniel Whiting, Timothy J. Whiting, Erika M. Bowe, Carly M. Bowe and Hayley M. Bowe; three great-grandchildren, Brett Bowe, Alysha Hutchins and Peyton Humphries; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Canavan Jr. DDS, 76, of Queensbury, passed away Thursday, Aug. 11, 2005, after a long illness at the Fort Hudson Health Care Facility in Fort Edward. Born June 22, 1929, in Glens Falls, he was the son of the late John and Loretta (Danahy) Canavan of Fort Edward. Dr. Canavan graduated as valedictorian from Fort Edward High School, Class of 1947. He received his predental education at Saint Bonaventure University, and graduated from the Georgetown University School of Dentistry, Class of 1953. Upon graduation, he entered the United States Air Force and remained on active duty until 1956. He continued to proudly serve in the Air Force on reserve status until his retirement, after 20 years, in 1977, achieving the rank of Lt. Colonel. During reserve duty he was assigned as a staff member of the Tri-County Detachment of the Civil Air Patrol and was the area liaison officer for the United States Air Force Academy. Military service offered him an opportunity to travel extensively throughout Europe and North Africa, where he developed into a skilled amateur photographer. His family treasures his collection of photographic accounts. Dr. Canavan practiced dentistry in Glens Falls for 40 years at his office on Ridge Street, retiring in 1997. He was very proud of the care he provided and the friendships he established over the years in practice. He was actively involved in the Upper Hudson Dental Society and served on the staff at the Glens Falls Hospital for a number of years. He was a longtime member of the Glens Falls Country Club, B.P.O.E. Lodge 81, Glens Falls and an honorary member of the Glens Falls Knights of Columbus. He immensely enjoyed the camaraderie of his friends at those establishments. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his sister, M. Janet Felske and her husband, Herbert Felske. He is survived by his wife, Susanna (Schuster) Canavan, of Queensbury; a daughter, Connie O'Brien and her husband, Patrick, of Buffalo; two sons, Patrick Canavan and his wife, Julie (Yerdon), and Kevin Canavan, all of Queensbury; three grandchildren: Christine O'Brien, and Caitlin and Gillian Canavan; one niece, two nephews and several cousins. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday, Aug. 15, at Our Lady of the Annunciation Church, Aviation Road, Queensbury. Burial will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery, South Glens Falls. Johnson, Timothy Paul BALLSTON SPA -- Timothy Paul Johnson, 67, of Ballston Spa, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, loyal and trusted friend, while surrounded by his family and friends went to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Friday, Aug. 12, 2005. Born in Cooperstown, on Oct. 31, 1937, he was the son of Ivar and Olive Allee Johnson. As a lifelong resident of the capital district, Tim enjoyed camping at Galway Lake, horses, drag racing, model trains and bull riding. Mr. Johnson proudly served with the United States Army. As a self-employed auctioneer, Tim was always ready to help those in need and will be missed by all who knew and loved him. Mr. Johnson is survived by his wife, Joan Edie Johnson, whom he married in 1965. He is also survived by his children: Paul Johnson of Clifton Park, T.J. Baum of Schoharie, Lonie Putman of Caroga Lake, Leslie Price of Schoharie, Charlene Wood of Gansevoort, J. Tracy McGuinness of Schoharie and Ralph Dott of Schoharie; 13 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, Aug. 15, at Griswold Funeral Home, 1867 State St., Schenectady, with pastor David Moore of Greater Grace Community Church officiating. Korinke, Beatrice May (Marshall) QUEENSBURY -- Beatrice May (Marshall) Korinke, 95, passed away on Friday, Aug. 12, 2005, at Fort Hudson Health Care Facility in Fort Edward. Friends may call on Monday from 2 to 3 p.m. at Carleton Funeral Home, Inc., 68 Main St. in Hudson Falls. Services will be conducted at 3 p.m. on Monday, following the calling hour. Lyons, 76, passed away on Wednesday, Aug. 10, 2005, at Glens Falls Hospital. Born on March 4, 1929, in South Glens Falls, he was the son of the late Frank J. and Una (DeMarsh) Lyons. Jim was a veteran of the Korean War, having served with the U. S. Navy on the USS Des Moines. He lived in the Washington, D.C. area and worked at the University of Maryland and also with Marriott Hotels. Jim moved to the Queensbury area to purchase his own bakery. He later became the baker at the Queensbury Hotel and then the chef. He also taught culinary skills at Paul Smith College in Saranac Lake and opened an in-house bakery at Comstock Correctional Facility. In addition to his love of baking, he was a member of Bay Meadows and was an avid golfer. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his daughter, Cynthia (Cindy) Seeley. Survivors include his wife of 31 years, Dolores Lyons of Queensbury; his children: Candice Sigler of Washington, D.C., Dana Lyons and his wife, Lee-Ann, of Maryland, Donna Arick and her husband, Bill, of Maryland, Gail Messier of Washington D.C., Christine Reid and her husband, Rick, of Maryland, Charlotte Ingram of Maryland, and Colleen Pearsall and her husband, Wes, of Florida; 10 grandchildren; brothers and sisters: Mary Powers of Glens Falls, Ann Powers and her husband Joseph, of South Glens Falls, Jack Lyons of South Glens Falls, Ellen Nowacki and her husband, Tom, of Clifton Park and Lois Cardinale and her husband, Jim, of South Glens Falls; and several nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be conducted at 2 p.m., Sunday, Aug. 14, at Regan & Denny Funeral Home, 53 Quaker Road, Queensbury, with the Rev. Flossie Bates officiating. 'Mike' Scoville, 99, a resident of Queensbury, passed away Wednesday, Aug. 10, 2005, at his home. He was born on Nov. 9, 1905, in Valparaiso, Nev., the son of Hubert and Myrtle (Guessford) Scoville. Mr. Scoville retired from General Electric Co. in Fort Edward following several years of service as an electrical engineer. He was a member of Christ Church United Methodist, Glens Falls. Mr. Scoville married the late Doris M. Mignery in June of 1931. Survivors include his two sons, Wayne W. Scoville and his wife, Gail, of Tupelo, Miss., and Roger D. Scoville and his wife, Krista, of Chestnut Hill, Mass. He is also survived by six grandchildren: Tracy Howell, Jeffery Scoville, Curtis Scoville, C. Dana Pease, Peter M. Scoville, and Julia C. Barber; and nine great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 27, at Christ Church United Methodist, 54 Bay St., Glens Falls. Wicks, Lawrence Fredrick ARGYLE -- Lawrence Fredrick Wicks, 82, of Wicks Lane, died Friday, Aug. 12, 2005, at Glens Falls Hospital. He was born on Feb. 1, 1923, in Argyle, to the late Fredrick S. and Eliza (Liddle) Wicks. Lawrence was a 1941 graduate from Argyle Central School. He joined the Army in 1943, and served in the Northern Soloman Islands, receiving the Asiatic Pacific Service Medal, a Good Conduct Medal, a Philippines Liberation Ribbon and a World War II Victory Medal. Lawrence married Mary Morehouse on May 12, 1962, at the Argyle United Methodist Church. When Lawrence returned from the service, he and his father purchased and operated the family farm on Wicks Lane in Argyle. Besides being a lifelong farmer, he was employed as a rural carrier at the Argyle post office for many years. He will be remembered as being a very generous person and especially enjoyed children and his many friends at Pleasant Valley Infirmary. Among his many enjoyments and hobbies, he was a member of the J.A. Barkley Hose Co. since 1959, past commander of Washington County American Legion, a member of the Argyle American Legion, and enjoyed bowling and bingo. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his brothers, Donald H. and Ralph S. Wicks. Survivors besides his wife, Mary, of 43 years, include his sons, Lawrence F. Wicks and his wife, Crystal, of Argyle, and Leslie Wicks and his wife, Nicole, of Argyle; his granddaughters, Morgan, Alyssa and Lauren Wicks of Argyle; his sister, Ruth Graham of Argyle; his brother, Walter D. Wicks, and his wife, Deniece, of Queensbury; and several nieces and nephews. Friends may call from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m., Monday, Aug. 15, at M.B.
