He was born on Dec. 24, 1927, in Fair Haven, Vt. On Sept. 10, 1955, he married Carolyn Deso in Connecticut. Bud was a carpenter by trade and worked for various contractors in the Glens Falls area. In addition to his wife of 49 years, Carolyn Ballard of Argyle, he is survived by 11 children: Elaine Woutersz, Kathy Jeannotte, Michele Howard, David Ballard, Karen Derusha, Sandra Heydrick, Carol Greene, Lynn Ballard, Christopher Ballard, Scott Ballard and Matthew Ballard; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; his two brothers, Clayton Ballard and Allen Eddy; his three sisters, Mary Lemery, Gloria DeLuca and Threasa Marshall; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. His family wishes to thank the Washington County Hospice for their wonderful care and support during Bud's illness. Burke, 73, a lifelong resident of Hudson Falls, passed away peacefully at his home on Notre Dame Street, surrounded by his loving family on Monday, Aug. 15, 2005, after receiving a blessing from Father Joseph Dworak. Born on Oct. 30, 1931, in Hudson Falls, he was the son of the late Matthew and Winifred (Moss) Burke. Bill graduated from Hudson Falls High School in 1949. He served his country as a veteran of the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict, until his brother, Bernard, was killed in the service. On Oct. 16, 1955, Bill married Margaret Reed at St. Mary's Church in Hudson Falls. Bill was the executive vice president of branches at the Glens Falls National Bank, retiring in 1987. He then continued working at the Washington County Co-op Insurance, until his retirement in 1994. Bill was a communicant of St. Mary's/St. Paul's Church in Hudson Falls. He was a very active man who enjoyed woodworking, gardening, golfing and his Yorkie, Mocha. The most important thing in his life was his family. He deeply loved his wife, children, grandchildren and great-granddaughter. Besides his parents and brother, Bernard, he was also predeceased by his sister, Geraldine Roods. Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Margaret Burke of Hudson Falls; his two sons, Bernie and his wife, Debbie, of Hudson Falls, and Tim and his wife, Michelle, of Hudson Falls; four grandchildren, Nate, Erin, Shannon and Rachel; one great-granddaughter, Kaianna Margaret; his sister, Joan, and brother-in-law, Jim Hogan, of Auburn; his sister, Eileen, and brother-in-law, Sherman Stark, of Hudson Falls; his sister, Barb, and brother-in-law, Phil Allen, of Hudson Falls; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Family and friends are welcome to call on Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m. at Carleton Funeral Home, Inc., 68 Main St. in Hudson Falls. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Friday at St. Mary's/St. Paul's Church on the park in Hudson Falls. The Rite of Committal will take place at St. Paul's Cemetery on Vaughn Road, in the town of Kingsbury, with military honors provided by American Legion Post 574 of Hudson Falls. Bill's family wishes to thank the late Dr. Richard Hogan, Dr. Hoffman and his staff, especially Ellie, the Washington County Hospice staff, the staff at the Glens Falls Emergency Room and 3 West B, the Fort Edward Rescue Squad, Empire Ambulance and Father Joseph Dworak, for their compassion during Bill's illness. Ticonderoga -- Elsie G. Bush, 87, of 64 St. Clair St., died peacefully on Aug. 16, 2005, at the Fletcher Allen Health Care Center of Burlington, Vt., with her loving son, Richard, at her side. Born in Ticonderoga on Nov. 25, 1917, she was the daughter of the late Archibald A. and Corena P. "Queenie" (Garrow) Gallant. Elsie was valedictorian of the Ticonderoga High School Class of 1935, and was a graduate of the College of New Rochelle. During World War II, she worked at G.E. Broadcasting during the early years of television. Later she spent many years as librarian at St. Paul's School in Garden City, N.Y. She retired in the early 1970s after teaching several years at St. Mary's School in Ticonderoga. Elsie was predeceased by her husband, Walter J. (Tuffy) Bush. Survivors include her son, Richard J. Bush and his wife, Mary, of Clifton Park; two grandchildren, Andrea Marie Biski and her husband, Chad, of Saratoga Springs, and Richard J. Bush Jr. and his wife, Dana, of Old Saybrook, Conn.; and a great-grandson, Ryan H. Bush. Relatives and friends may call Thursday from 5 to 7 p.m. at Wilcox & Regan Funeral Home, 11 Algonkin St., Ticonderoga. A funeral service will take place Friday at 10 a.m. at the funeral home. Fry, Gordon Edward ROCK HILL, S.C. -- Gordon Edward Fry, 85, of 1543 Bellridge Road, Rock Hill, S.C., passed away Sunday, Aug. 14, 2005, at Presbyterian Hospital, Matthews, N.C. Mr. Fry was a native of Brooklyn, N.Y. He was the son of the late Walter Edward Fry and Caroline Armbruster Fry. He served in the U.S. Army during world War II. Mr. Fry was predeceased by his wife, Edna N. Fry. He is survived by one son, John Edward Fry of Greenwich; a daughter, Karen Monahan of Rock Hill, S.C.; seven grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. Graveside services with military honors will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 18, 2005, at Greenwich Cemetery. "Sonny" Stark Sr., 89, passed away at the Rutland Regional Medical Center in Rutland, Vt., on Monday, Aug. 15, 2005, surrounded by his loving family. Born on April 14, 1916, in Whitehall, he was the son of the late Herbert C. Stark and Ida (McFarren) Stark Blanchard. He attended Whitehall High School and owned and operated a dairy farm for 35 years. After retiring from the farm, he worked for Washington County for 16 years until his retirement in 1986. He was a lifetime member of the Skenesborough Skeet Club. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening. He also trained and raced sulky horses at Saratoga, N.Y., Maine, Hew Hampshire and Vermont. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his wife of 68 years, Evelyn (Lucas) Stark, one daughter, Roberta A. Frasier, one granddaughter, Lisa Stark, five sisters, Nina Beckwith, Eunice Hurlburt, Beatrice Blanchard, Hilda Dushane and Madeline Crandall; and three brothers, Benjamin Blanchard, William Blanchard and David Stark. He is survived by two sons, Herbert C. Stark II and his companion, Emma Turco, of Whitehall and Roscoe Stark and his wife, June, of Hampton; three daughters, Frances Loiselle, Beatrice Stark, both of Whitehall, and Toni DeSarbo and her husband, John, of Gansevoort; 20 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be conducted on Friday, Aug. 19, 2005, at 1 p.m. at the Whitehall United Methodist Church, Greenmount Cemetery Lane, Whitehall, with the Rev. Ashley Meade officiating. Interment will follow at Sciota Cemetery in Whitehall. Family and friends may call at Jillson Funeral Home, Inc., 46 Williams St., Whitehall, on Thursday, Aug. 18, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may take the form of a donation in Herbert's name to the Skenesborough E.M.S., P.O.
