Bakers Mills -- Harold G. Allen, 87, died on Saturday morning, Aug. 20, 2005, at the Adirondack Tri-Co Nursing and Rehabilation Center in North Creek following a long illness. Harold was born on Feb. 13, 1918, in the town of Johnsburg, a son of the late George and Cora (Millington) Allen. He was married on Oct. 4, 1937, to his wife of 67 years, Pansy A. Dalaba. they settled in Bakers Mills and began a family. Harold enlisted in the U.S. Navy during World War II. Following the war, he returned to the North Country where he worked for Barton's Mines until his retirement as a welder, repairman and mechanic and also helped build the new mill in North Creek. He was also a gifted auto machanic and worked for the former Hewitt and Barber Garage of North Creek. He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting and had volunteered in the CC camps. Harold also enjoyed raising animals, farming and working the soil. Harold and Pansy also raised more than 50 foster children throughout the years at their home in Bakers Mills. Harold was predeceased by his son, Edward H. Allen; a granddaughter, Shelly Rose Cleveland; four brothers, Francis, Arnold, Lester and Gerald Allen; and two sisters, Anna Allen and Mary Robbins. He is survived by his wife, Pansy A. Allen of Chestertown; three sons, Melvin Allen and his wife, Sue, of Bakers Mills, Timothy Allen and wife, Lois, of Corinth, and George Allen of Lake George; five daughters, Shirley Cleveland and her husband, J. Rolland, of Chestertown, Delora Millington and her husband, Gary, of North Creek, Marlene Harppinger and her companion, Forrest Farley, of Chestertown, Linda Whitney of Chestertown, and Laura Allen of Watertown; three brothers, Keith Allen of Olmstedville, George Allen of Bakers Mills and Lee Allen of Johnsburg; 27 grandchildren; several great- grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins. Calling hours will be held on Monday, Aug. 22, from 2 until 5 p.m. at Alexander Baker Funeral Home, 3809 Main St., Warrensburg, where a funeral service will follow at 5 p.m. Monday, with the Rev. Ronald Allen, Harold's nephew, of Sodom Community Church and the Rev. Oliver Dalaba, Harold's brother-in-law, of Michigan and Florida will officiate. Burial will take place at Garnet Lake Wesleyan Cemetery, Johnsburg. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Harold's memory to the Adirondack Tri-Co. Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, P.O. Benson-Shepard, Mariann Elizabeth Corby Saratoga Springs -- Mariann Elizabeth Corby Benson-Shepard, of Edie Road, died Thursday, Aug. 11, 2005, at her home, surrounded by her family. She was 64. Born on Aug. 29, 1940, in Bethlehem, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Herbert and Helen (Mutter) Corby. Mariann was a graduate of Allentown Central Catholic High School, as well as St. Luke's Hospital School of Nursing in Pennsylvania where she earned her RN. She worked as a case manager for Ellis Hospital and, most recently, Glens Falls Hospital. A student of Eastern Thought, Mariann enjoyed cooking and culinary interests, needlepoint, art museums, and European travel, and was an avid jogger and cat lover. Her wonderful sense of humor brightened all who knew her; she always valued the moment and lived life to the fullest. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her beloved husband, Richard "Shep" Shepard, and a brother, Herbert Corby Jr. She is survived by her two daughters, Donna Iturrate (husband, Miguel) of Mercersburg, Pa., and Cara Benson of Saratoga Springs; a stepdaughter, Claudia Shepard-Donayre of Bal Harbour, Fla.; two brothers, William Corby of Allentown, Pa., and Robert Corby of Bethlehem, Pa.; and several nieces and nephews. Larmon, William K. corinth -- William K. Larmon, 87, of 364 West Maple St., passed away Friday, Aug. 19, 2005, at Saratoga Hospital following a brief illness. Born on Feb. 21, 1918, in Argyle, he was the son of the late Franklin and Augusta (Trumbull) Larmon. Mr. Larmon joined the United States Army on April 1, 1939, serving during World War II as a sergeant and MP in the Pacific Theater. He received the World War II Victory Medal, the Asiatic Pacific Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. He married Mary "May" Larmon on Sept. 20, 1942, in Brooklyn. The couple resided in the New York City area for more than 15 years before moving to Porter Corners. She died Jan. 23, 1996, following 53 years of marriage. Mr. Larmon was employed at Hazeltine Electronics in Greenlawn, Long Island, for many years until his retirement in 1981. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, woodworking and spending time outdoors. Besides his wife and his parents, he was also predeceased by several brothers and sisters. Survivors include one son, William M. Larmon and his wife, Dorothy, of Lake Luzerne; one daughter, the Rev. Mary Reilly and her husband, Walter, of Clifton Park; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 23, 2005, at the Densmore Funeral Home, Inc., 7 Sherman Ave., Corinth with the Rev. Mary Reilly, pastor of the River of Life Worship Center of Glens Falls, officiating. Burial will be at Corinth Rural Cemetery with military honors provided by the Horace D. Reisener, Lori Merrill HOMEWOOD, Ill. -- Lori Merrill Reisener, 51, of Homewood, Ill., and formerly of Glens Falls, passed away peacefully at her home on Thursday, Aug. 18, 2005. Born on March 23, 1954, in Worcester, Mass., she was the daughter of the late James and Fawn Macy Merrill. Lori was employed in sales at Steel Company. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her dog, her beloved Spencer. She is the loving wife of Wayne Reisener; dear sister of Bonnie (Bill) Gutheim of Chittenango, N.Y.; cherished aunt of Tracey and Robert Gutheim; fond niece of Edmay (the late Ralph) Merrill, also the late Edith Amarosi, Robert Merrill, Jean Weaver, and James Macy. Visitation will be held from 3 to 8 p.m. Monday, Aug. 22, 2005, at Tews Funeral Home, Inc., 18230 S. Dixie Highway, Homewood, Ill. Published in the Post-Star on 8/21/2005. Werner, Kay M. Indian Lake -- Kay M. Werner, age 68, departed this life in the Sign of Faith on Saturday, Feb. 19, 2005, in the VNA Hospice of St. Luke's. Born in New York City, she was the daughter of Ralph O. and Emma (Decker) Welsing. She was a graduate of Andrew Jackson High School in Queens, and a 1957 graduate of Wagner College School of Nursing. Kay worked for 10 years as a visiting nurse in Philadelphia and as a nurse at Germantown Hospital, Philadelphia and most recently as assistant director of Nursing at Unitarian-Universalist House in Philadelphia. She married the Rev. Carl Werner on Aug. 25, 1957. Having been afflicted with Parkinson's disease for some 35 years, she was an inspiration to other Parkinsonians and all who knew her. Together with her husband, they were instrumental in organizing a group of "Young Parkinsonians" at the Center for Movement Disorders, Graduate Hospital, Philadelphia, and in the Parkinson's Support Group of the Lehigh Valley since 1987. She participated in many research studies concerning Parkinson's disease, and left her brain to the National Parkinson Foundation for research. Kay was also a volunteer at the VNA Hospice of St. Luke's until her death, and at Historic Bethlehem, working at Burnside Plantation, and served as secretary of the Lehigh Valley Parkinson's Support Group and as a member of the Lutheran Synod of Northeastern Pennsylvania Committee for Accessibility for the Handicapped, and was a member of the Lutheran Historical Society of Eastern Pennsylvania and VASA Order of America (Leif Ericcson Lodge 735). She enjoyed her grandchildren and had many hobbies and interests. Survivors include her husband, the Rev. Carl Werner; her mother, Emma Welsing of Palm Harbor, Fla.; her brother, Ralph D. Welsing of Medford Lakes, N.J.; one daughter, Kristin Marie Romell and her husband, George, of Fairport, N.Y.; one son, Carl Erik Werner and his wife, Susan, of Philadelphia, Pa.; two grandchildren, Michael Carl Romell and Emma Anna Romell. A memorial service and celebration of Kay's life will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, Aug. 27, at the Church of the Transfiguration, Blue Mountain Lake, N.Y., where she served on the Church Committee for 35 years together with her husband. Williams Jr. of Union Street, died Friday, Aug. 19, 2005, at Saratoga Hospital following a short illness. He was 79. Born on April 25, 1926, in Saratoga Springs, he was the son of Glen A. and Maude J. (Coonradt) Williams Sr. Glen was a graduate of Saratoga Springs High School and then worked at the Saratoga Vichy Water plant for a short time. He enlisted in the U.S. Army and served for twenty-five years, retiring in 1970 with the rank of command sergeant major. After retiring from the Army, he worked as a groundskeeper with the Department of the Interior National Park Service at Saratoga Battle Field. He enjoyed gardening. Besides his parents, a brother, Walter Clute, and a sister, Harriet Boucher, died before him. Survivors include two brothers, Edward Williams of Saratoga Springs and Allan Williams and his wife, Edith, of Ballston Spa; several nieces and nephews including: Angel Boucher, Shane Boucher, Lance Boucher, John Riley, Carlton Riley Jr., Angel Sellers, Richard Boucher Jr., Timothy Boucher, Diane Ackley, Paula Riley, and Carlton Riley Sr. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 23, at Tunison Funeral Home, 105 Lake Ave., Saratoga Springs. Burial with full military honors will follow at Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, Duell Road, Schuylerville.
