Gardiner WILLIAMSBURG, Va. -- J. Gardiner Bridge, 95, known to friends and family as Gardiner, died Friday, Jan. 28, 2005, at Williamsburg Landing, in Williamsburg, Va., where he had lived for 15 years. Born in Portland, Maine, Mr. Bridge attended Deering High School in Portland, Maine, as well as Hebron Academy and Exeter Academy. He graduated from Yale University in 1932. During the 1930s he taught Latin and algebra in the Southwest, eventually joined the management of a New York based ribbon manufacturer, and worked at the Chicago World's Fair in 1938. In 1938 he married his childhood sweetheart, Sarah Tuttle Braman; they had been married for 61 years at the time of her death in 1999. After the outbreak of World War II, Mr. Bridge first worked for the War Production Board of New England, managing production of plywood for Mosquito Bombers, then volunteered for active duty in army intelligence; he was posted to Algeria, and led two missions behind the lines in occupied France. After the war, he and his growing family settled in Glens Falls. He bought Northeast Heating Supply Inc., building it over several decades into a successful business which he sold in 1990. In recent years, he has been a successful investor. Mr. Bridge was an avid bridge player, an enthusiastic skier well into his eighties, and a world traveler, most recently accompanying his family in February 2004 to see the whale calving grounds and the prehistoric cave art of Baja, Calif. Over his long life, he hiked the Adirondacks extensively, and looked forward to an annual ski outing to Tuckerman's Ravine. Mr. Bridge is survived by three children: Susan Bridge of Boston, Mass., James Bridge of Brunswick, Maine, and Thomas Bridge of Durango, Colo.; two grandchildren, James Bridge Jr., and Heather Bridge Hayes; and a great-grandchild, Caitlin Hayes. A son, John Gardiner Bridge Jr., died in 1997. A memorial service and interment will be held in Glens Falls in early summer. Donations in Mr. Bridge's memory may be made to the World Wildlife Fund, 1250 24th Street NW, Washington DC 20037, an organization that enjoyed his support for many years. Published in the Post-Star on 2/3/2005. Hamel, Rene PUTNAM STATION -- Rene Hamel, 80, of Pembroke Pines, Fla. and formerly of Putnam Station, passed away Monday, Jan. 31, 2005. He was born in Quebec, Canada on Oct. 1, 1924. Mr. Hamel was a veteran of the U. S. Army, having served from 1948 until 1952 during the Korean War. He was a Putnam resident since 1946. He was self-employed in road construction and logging. Survivors include three sons: Rene Hamel and his wife, Patricia, of Putnam Station, Joel Hamel of Portsmith, Maine, and Paul Hamel and his wife, Betty, of Ticonderoga; two daughters, Annette Dedrick and her husband, Robert, of Ticonderoga, and Pam Cuomo and her husband, Jeffrey, of Whitehall. He is also survived by many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and nieces and nephews. A memorial Mass will be celebrated at 4:30 p.m. on June 11, 2005, at St. Mary's Catholic Church of Ticonderoga. Published in the Post-Star on 2/3/2005. Johnson, Paul MOREAU -- Paul Johnson, 60, of Moreau, passed away unexpectedly, Tuesday, Feb. 1, 2005, following a brief illness. Born on Oct. 2, 1944, in Glens Falls, he was the son of Marie (Johnson) Normandin of Lake George, and the late Frederick Johnson. Mr. Johnson married Judy E. (Peno) Johnson on June 17, 1967. Mrs. Johnson passed away in February of 1975. Mr. Johnson was employed by J.E. Sawyer & Co in Glens Falls for 40 years. He worked in the heating and cooling department designing systems for residential and commercial buildings. He enjoyed spending time with his family, fishing, reading, playing cards and being outside. In addition to his late wife and father, Mr. Johnson was also predeceased by one sister, Marie (Johnson) Goldstein; his stepfather, Robert Normandin; and his mother-in-law, Frances Peno. Survivors besides his mother include one son, Michael Johnson and his wife, Teresa, of White Lake, Mich.; one daughter, Jean (Johnson) Delaney and her husband, David, of Saratoga Springs; five grandchildren: Amanda, Stephanie and Todd Johnson and Emma and Ryan Delaney; three sisters: Dorothy (Johnson) Siegel and her husband, Ken, of Scottsville, Nancy Normandin of Glens Falls and Eileen (Normandin) Boyer and her husband, Joe, of Hudson Falls; a sister-in-law, Carol (Peno) Norton of South Glens Falls; and several nieces and nephews. Friends may call on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Carleton Funeral Home, Inc, 68 Main St., Hudson Falls. Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. on Friday at funeral home, with the Rev. Charles Robertson, pastor of the Cornerstone Bible Church in Fort Ann, officiating. Interment will be in the spring at Southside Cemetery, in the town of Moreau, at the family's convenience. The family has requested that memorial donations be made in his memory to the National Kidney Foundation of North East New York, 23 Computer Drive East, Albany, NY 12205. Published in the Post-Star on 2/3/2005. LeRoy, Todd William EAST GREENWICH -- Todd William LeRoy, 51, died unexpectedly Tuesday, Feb. 1, 2005, at his residence on Kilburn Road. He was born on July 1, 1953, in Niskayuna, the son of Alfred T. and Lois (Law) LeRoy of Latham. Todd was a graduate of Shaker High School in Latham. He was a broker on Wall Street in the 1980s, a franchise owner of Video Hut and currently a self-employed craftsman. His hobbies included building custom benches and tables, four-wheeling with his children, working on his planned bed and breakfast, Lodge LeRoy and breeding German Shepherds. Todd especially loved nature, the woods and all animals. He was a licensed hunting and fishing guide, and he enjoyed hunting with a bow and black powder. During fishing season he took many friends and family fishing. He was a communicant of Holy Cross Church in Salem. Todd was predeceased by two brothers, Raymond and Alan LeRoy. Besides his parents he is survived by his five children: Dorian LeRoy Pitman and Eliza LeRoy, both of Greenwich, Trevor Jordan LeRoy of East Greenwich, Gabrielle Taylor and Noelle Courtney LeRoy, both of Salem; one brother, Tom LeRoy of Naples, Fla.; one sister, Barbara Dietrich of Yarmouth-Port, Mass.; Dorian and Eliza's mother, Beth Olesen of Wilton; Trevor, Gabrielle and Noelle's mother, Suzanne Frauendorfer-LeRoy of Salem; his fiancee, Sharon Jones, and her children, Ashley and Wesley, all of East Greenwich; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 5, at Holy Cross Church, North Main Street, Salem, with the Rev. Liam Condon, pastor, officiating. There will be no calling hours. Millett, Dorothy M. "Dot" SOUTH GLENS FALLS -- Dorothy M. "Dot" Millett, 85, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, Feb. 1, 2005, at her home. Born on April 25, 1917, in Cohoes, she was the daughter of John and Lillian (Plante) Haggerty. Dorothy dedicated herself to her family. She lived a simple life and filled it with everyday pleasures. Besides her parents she was predeceased by her husband, William, who died on May 9, 1988; her son, Robert Chainao, who died on June 15, 1986, and her sister, Sister Geraldine Haggerty, who died in 1993. Survivors include her son, William F. Millett of South Glens Falls; four grandchildren: William Millett, Patrick Millett and Nathan Millett of South Glens Falls, and Robert Chainao of Lake Luzerne; a great-grandson, Keith Chainao; two great-great-grandchildren; her sister, Ruth Brothwell of Pleasant Valley; and two nieces, Pam and Beth and their children. A funeral service for family and friends will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 4, at Regan & Denny Funeral Home, 94 Saratoga Ave., South Glens Falls, with the Rev. Robert Nugent officiating. Tripp, 91 formerly of Gold Street, passed away, Tuesday evening, Feb. 1, 2005, at Eden Park Health Care Center in Glens Falls. Born Nov. 13, 1913, in Warrensburg, she was the daughter of the late Wilford Baker and Blanche Richardson. Marian was a lifelong resident of Warrensburg and was raised by her maternal grandparents. She married Clarence Tripp of Warrensburg and the couple enjoyed raising registered Samoyeds dogs at their kennel. She also was a seamstress at the former Warrensburg Shirt Factory for many years. Her husband passed away on Nov. 9, 1979, after 48 years of marriage. She leaves her close friends and neighbors, Mickey and Winnie Mayes of Warrensburg. There are no known blood relatives. Friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at Alexander-Baker Funeral Home, 3809 Main St., Warrensburg. A funeral service will follow the visitation at 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Spring burial will be at Warrensburg Cemetery. Watkins, Cristina Malta -- Cristina Watkins, 29, of Rowley Road, Malta, died Saturday, Jan. 30, 2005, suddenly. while driving on Route 9 in Malta. Ms. Watkins was a graduate of Niskayuna High School and SUNY Plattsburgh. She was a reading specialist and a second-grade teacher at Harrison Elementary School in South Glens Falls. She was a volunteer for Habitat for Humanity. Ms. Watkins is survived by her mother, JulieAnn Watkins, of Glenville; her father, Ron Watkins, of Niskayuna; two sisters, Monica Herold of Scotia and Amber Watkins of Schenectady; nephew, Jerad Watkins; niece, Isabella Herold born on Jan. 31, and extended family in California and Ohio. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, at 11 a.m., at Griswold Funeral Home, 1867 State St., Schenectady. Friends are also invited to call at the funeral home, Friday evening from 5 to 8 p.m. Interment will be in Park View Cemetery. White, age 100, died on Tuesday, Feb. 1, 2005, at the Saratoga Nursing Home where she had been a resident for several years. Born in Valatie, N.Y. in 1904, she was the daughter of Elizabeth and Herman Alter. Following graduation from high school, she attended Oneonta Normal School where she received a teaching certificate and taught school at Schodack Center, N.Y. for a year. She married Willis B. White in 1923, who predeceased her in 1971. She moved to East Schodack, N.Y. where she was a homemaker until World War II. She was active in the East Schodack Recreation Club, Home Bureau, AARP, part-time librarian and an avid bowler. During World War II she was a volunteer Airplane Spotter for Civilian Defense. Following World War II she was employed at the Hamilton Printing Company as a proof reader and for the New York State Department of Commerce and Department of Tax and Finance until retirement. She moved to Saratoga N.Y. in 1985 to be near her family. While in Saratoga she was active in the Senior Center and the local chapter of AARP. She is survived by a daughter, Joan Bowen of South Glens Falls; a son, Willis B. White Jr. of Saratoga; six grandchildren, Ronald and Michael White of Saratoga, Jonathan White of Troy, Toni Truesdale of Gansevoort, Robert Bowen of Hudson Falls and Christopher Bowen of Amsterdam; eight great-grandchildren, Taryn and Shane White of Canandaigua, N.Y., Kate and Emily Truesdale of Gansevoort; Abbey, Collin White, Eva Maria Rodriquez of Saratoga, Ryan Bowen of Hudson Falls; two great-great-grandchildren, matthew Diamond and Mya White of Canandaigua, N.Y. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 5, at the New England Presbyterian and Congregational Church 24 Circular St., Saratoga Springs. There will be no calling hours. Interment will be at Woodlawn Cemetery, East Schodack, N.Y. In lieu of flowers, persons wishing to make a memorial contribution may do so to the charity of their choice.
