Lake Luzerne -- Edward J. Bange, age 80, of Lake Allure Lane, died Friday morning, Feb. 4, 2005, at Glens Falls Hospital. Born on Oct. 24, 1924, in New York City, he was the son of John A. and Elizabeth (Bowles) Bange. The family later moved to Laurelton, Queens. He was a graduate of the New York City Public Schools. Ed served as a Corporal in the United States Marine Corps during World War II. He was a member of C Company 2nd Battalion 28th Marines (part of the 5th Marine Division Engineer Battalion). He served in the Asiatic-Pacific area and had participated in action against the enemy at Iwo Jima. He received the Marine Corps Medal, Good Conduct Medal and the World War II Victory Medal. Upon his honorable discharge, Ed returned to Long Island and worked as a plumber and as Highway Supervisor for the Town of Hempstead for many years prior to his retirement in 1981. He married Margaret O'Reilly on June 8, 1947, at St. Clare's Church in Rosedale. Mrs. Bange died on April 18, 1998. Ed was a founding member of the Mid Island Detachment Marine Corps League of Levittown, N.Y., where, over the years, Ed rose through the chairs beginning as Detachment Commandant, State Commandant and the National Commandant from 1968 to 1970. He has served as an adviser to the many Marines "coming through the chairs." In 1965, Ed founded the Department of New York Marine Corps League Uncommon Valor Scholarship Fund. He was presented with a single $90 donation from the mother of a Marine killed in action in Vietnam. With that money Ed began the scholarship fund that continues to give countless scholarships to college-bound children of Marine Corps veterans throughout New York state. He was Chairman of the fund for over 40 years. He was instrumental in planning annual Iwo Jima reunions for C Company. Ed was an invited guest to President Nixon's Inauguration and Inaugural Ball and had also been a guest at the White House for State Dinners of President Johnson and President Ford. He served as past president and board member for the Northwoods Association, Lake Luzerne, and was a member of the William J. Varney American Legion Post No. 862, Lake Luzerne. Ed was an extremely generous man who enjoyed helping others, gave freely of his time and never expected a thing in return. He enjoyed fishing, his work with the Marine Corps League, but most especially enjoyed his family. Ed's family would like to express their sincere appreciation to the Doctors and Nurses at Glens Falls Hospital, 3 South, for the loving care he received. Your genuine care and compassion was felt by all of us. He was predeceased by his parents, his wife of 50 years, Margaret Bange; three brothers, James Edward Bange (Ed's twin), John Bange and Thomas Bange. Survivors include one daughter, Clare Bange-Hall of Lake Luzerne; one son, Gregory Bange and his wife, Barbara, of East Meadow; four grandchildren, Alessandra Bange-Hall of Lake Luzerne, Douglas Bange, Alison Bange and Kirsten Bange all of East Meadow; one brother, Robert Bange and his wife, Joan, of Levittown; several nieces and nephews. Friends may call Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Brewer Funeral Home, Inc., 24 Church St., Lake Luzerne, where members of the William J. Varney American Legion Post No. 862 will conduct services at 7:30 p.m. Members of the Marine Corps League will conduct services at 8 p.m. Burial will be in Holy Infancy Cemetery, Lake Luzerne. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. at the Church of the Holy Infancy, Lake Luzerne, with the Rev. Charles A. Gaffigan, pastor, officiating. DelSignore, Elizabeth "Peppi" Glens Falls -- Elizabeth ("Peppi") DelSignore, 81, of Glens Falls passed away Saturday, Feb. 5, 2005, at Glens Falls Hospital surrounded by her loving family. Born on Aug. 7, 1923, in Helmond, Holland, she was the daughter of the late Adreanus and Godefrieda (Hagelar) van de Kerkhof. During World War II, Elizabeth and John DelSignore met in Germany, fell in love, and married on Aug. 28, 1946. Upon John's discharge from the Army, they moved to Glens Falls and started their family. "Peppi" enjoyed sewing, knitting, and crocheting. Her joy came from being with her husband, John, of 59 years and her seven children, eight grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, John, who passed away March 26, 2004. She is survived by seven children: Andrea DelSignore of Fort Edward; Elizabeth Terranova and her husband, Vito, of Glens Falls; Catherine DelSignore of Queensbury; John DelSignore Jr. and his wife, Wendy, of South Glens Falls; Ann Marie Green and her husband, Robert, of Queensbury; Herman DelSignore and his wife, Vicki, of Glens Falls; and Anthony DelSignore and his wife, Michelle, of South Glens Falls; eight grandchildren, James Shortsleeves and Jessica Green; Kegan and Taylor DelSignore; Anthony DelSignore; and Alexis, Brad, and Cooper DelSignore; two great-grandchildren: Kylee Mae and Aydan James Shortsleeves; and several brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews. Elizabeth was a communicant of St. Mary's Church in Glens Falls. Friends may call today, Monday, Feb. 7, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Singleton-Healy Funeral Home, Bay Road, Queensbury. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 8, at St. Mary's Church with Father Joe Xavier presiding. Burial will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery in South Glens Falls with Elizabeth's seven children acting as pallbearers. Dutcher, Bessie Nichols Pottersville -- Bessie Nichols Dutcher, 84, died Friday Feb. 4, 2005, at her home. Born Aug. 8, 1920, in Pottersville, she was the daughter of the late LeRoy and Edith (Young) Nichols. Mrs. Dutcher was a member of Christ Episcopal Church of Pottersville. She was predeceased by her husband, Arnold Dutcher. Survivors include one son, Eugene Dutcher and his wife, Judy, of Pottersville; one daughter, Trudy Owens and her husband, Michael, of North Creek; one sister, Gertrude Beswick of Pottersville, five grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. McGowan, 65, went peacefully into the arms of Jesus on Saturday, Feb. 5, 2005, at the Glens Falls Hospital, after complications from recent surgery. Born on April 1, 1939, in Lake George, she was the daughter of the late James W. and Rosalie (Jarvis) Beagle. Ruth lived in Gansevoort all her life. One of her greatest accomplishments was the fact that in 1992 she earned her high school diploma. She enjoyed watching the "big boats" at the St. Lawrence Seaway and especially loved spending time with her beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She enjoyed playing games with Lizzy and was known as "Candy Grandma" by her grandson, Randy. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her brother, Jimmy; two granddaughters, Laura and Catherine; and a nephew, Michael Beagle. Ruth is survived by her lifelong companion, George Corlew of Gansevoort; a son, David McGowan of Wilton; a daughter, Colleen McGowan of Gansevoort; a son, James McGowan of Gansevoort and a daughter Laura McGowan and her companion, David Webster of Hudson Falls; her beloved grandchildren, Joshua Warner and his wife, Michelle, Jimmy McGowan, Jr. and Holly, Elizabeth "Lizzy" McGowan, Randy Blanchard, Jr. and Dawson Webster; three great-grandchildren, Michael, Haley and Kaydon Warner; her only sister, Claire M. Gordon and her husband, Joseph, of Queensbury; her special aunt and uncle, Marie and Dick Waite of Wilton; several nieces, nephews, great- nieces, great-nephews and cousins. Osgood, Sharon Queensbury -- Sharon Osgood, 58, of Queensbury, died Friday, Feb. 4, 2005, at Glens Falls Hospital. Born on May 30, 1946, in New Cannon, Conn., she was the daughter of the late John and Adelea (Sullivan) Brice. Sharon enjoyed spending time with her husband of 25 years, Robert. She had a special gift of taking care of others for many years, and also loved miniature golfing and scratch-off lottery tickets. Survivors besides her husband Robert, include her son Jedediah Randolph Osgood of Syracuse; and many nieces and nephews. At Sharon's request, there will be no calling hours. Burial will be held in the spring at Union Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of M.B. Kilmer Funeral Home, 82 Broadway, Fort Edward. Tucker, George LAKE GEORGE -- George Tucker, age 54, of Harris Avenue, died Wednesday evening, Feb. 2, 2005, at Saratoga Hospital. Born on Oct. 18, 1950, in Corinth, he was the son of Judy (Treanor) Tucker Dingman and the late Myron Tucker. He attended Hadley Luzerne Central School. George served in the United States Army in Vietnam. He earned the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal with one campaign star, Good Conduct Medal and a sharpshooter commendation. He was a member of the William J. Varney American Legion Post No. 862 Lake Luzerne. George enjoyed hunting, fishing and NASCAR races. He was preceded in death by his father, one brother, Ronald Tucker and one sister, Nancy Beach. Survivors include his mother, Judy Dingman and her husband, Loren, of Lake Luzerne; one son, George Day Tucker of South Carolina; five siblings: Linda Springer of Tampa, Fla,. Myron Tucker Jr. and his wife, Paula, of Broadalbin, Susan Hoelscher and her husband, John, of Wharton, Texas, Joann Tucker of Glens Falls, and Geraldine Kelley of Pelzer, S.C.; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. Funeral services will be conducted at 9 a.m. Monday at Brewer Funeral Home, Inc., 24 Church St., Lake Luzerne. Burial with full military honors will be at Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, Schuylerville. Friends may call Sunday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Donations in her memory may be directed to the Van R.
