BOLTON LANDING -- David F. Hoffman, 71, of Lake Shore Drive, died unexpectedly, Thursday, Feb. 3, 2005, while vacationing in Florida. Born on Oct. 18, 1933, in Gowanda, N.Y., he was the son of the late Harold and Esther (Bloomer) Hoffman. David met and married Helen R. "Bobbie" Knowles on Sept. 4, 1954, in Denver, Colo., while attending hotel and restaurant management school at Denver University. Upon graduation in 1955, with a BSBA, David joined the Hilton Hotel Corp. in New York City. After training in Manhattan, the Hoffmans moved to Hartford, Conn., where David worked as personnel manager and went on to become a hotel general manager. He traveled for the corporation, working in Atlanta, Ga., Pittsburgh, Pa., and Tarrytown, N.Y. In 1963, David transferred to Hilton International, Inc., as general manager in Puerto Rico and thereafter to Trinidad, West Indies. In 1968, he was appointed Director-Manpower Development for Hilton International based in New York City, and in 1970, he was elected vice president. In 1983, David was promoted to a senior vice president for Hilton International. When Hilton International was purchased by Ladbrooke Co. in 1987, David moved to the new home office in London, England. Upon retirement in 1991, the Hoffmans returned to the USA to reside in Bolton Landing. David was a volunteer for High Peaks Hospice. He also was employed at the Hiland Golf Club. His retirement passions became golfing and the comaraderie with his golfing buddies. He was a member of the Sagamore Fitness Center, Bolton Landing, where he went routinely to continue his love of the hospitality industry. David also enjoyed boating on Lake George and wintering in Venice, Fla. Survivors include his wife of 50 years, "Bobbie" Hoffman of Bolton Landing; two children, Cynthia "Cindy" Jean (Hoffman) Mosscrop of Bolton Landing, and Gary Frank Hoffman and his wife, Elizabeth, of Lancaster, Pa.; two granddaughters, Julia Kaye Mosscrop of Bolton Landing and Kathleen Elizabeth Hoffman of Lancaster, Pa.; one sister, Susan Rew of Elkton, Md.; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. David was very proud to be known as Julia's grandpa at her various sporting events and Girl Scout events. Julia is a ninth- grade student at Bolton Central School. At David's request, there will be no public calling hours. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 21, at Caldwell Presbyterian Church, 71 Montcalm St., Lake George, with the Rev. Shirley A. Mosholder, pastor, officiating. A reception will follow at the church. Burial will be private at Bolton Rural Cemetery, Bolton Landing. Published in the Post-Star from 2/9/2005 - 2/11/2005. King, Mildred S. ARGYLE -- Mildred S. King, 61, of Argyle, passed away on Wednesday, Feb. 9, 2005, at her home after a long battle with cancer. Born on Nov. 19, 1943, she was the daughter of the late Irene Pollock Taylor and Clayton Pollock. She was a graduate of Argyle Central School, Class of 1961. Later she married Guy King of Hudson Falls. Millie was a loving mother, grandmother and friend to many. She loved her flower gardens at her lifelong home, that has been in her family since 1898. In addition to her parents, she was also predeceased by three brothers, David, LeRoy and Jimmy Pollock. Survivors include her four devoted children: Lottie Jameson and her husband, Bill Jameson Jr., of Salem, Greg King of Argyle, Kim Scribner and her husband, Tim Scribner, of Hartford, and Brad King of Hudson Falls: her six grandchildren: Ryan and Dan Jameson of Salem, Justin and Brittany King of Argyle, and Zachary and Tyler King of Hartford; three brothers: Robert Pollock of Granville, Jerome Pollock of Arkansas and Myron Pollock and his wife, Joanne, of Argyle, and many nieces and nephews. At Millie's request, services will be private and at the convenience of the family. Burial will be in the spring at the North Argyle Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of M. B. Gift Shop Charities Town, Lorraine SOUTH GRANVILLE -- Lorraine Town passed away on Thursday, Feb. 10, 2005, at Glens Falls Hospital. Lorraine was born on April 3, 1922, at 86 Maple St., Hudson Falls, the daughter of Irving M. and Blanche (Mattison) Pond. She was a retired secretary for Dana M. King, who was the superintendent of the Hudson Falls School District. Lorraine is survived by her husband, Otis Town. She is also survived by three daughters: Linda Music and her husband, John, of Hebron, Lois Niver and her husband, Keith, of Claverack and Blanche Town of Goveneur; her eight grandchildren: Tyler Meding of Hebron, Lisa Packer and her husband, Dan, of Virginia Beach, Ryan and his wife, Zoe Niver of Claverack, Robyn Niver and her husband, Christopher Dibony, of Cortland, and Jesse Ritchie, Nicole Ritchie and Rebecca Ritchie, all of Goveneur; and two great-grandchildren: Madison and Chase Packer of Virginia Beach. Published in the Post-Star on 2/11/2005. Vandenburgh, William H. DELMAR -- William H. Vandenburgh, 83, of Lake George, and formerly of Delmar, died Tuesday, Feb. 8, 2005, at Glens Falls Hospital. Mr. Vandenburgh was born in Albany on Sept. 15, 1921, the son of the late Herman and Agnes (Seitz) Vandenburgh. He honorably served his country in the U.S. Navy during World War II, having been stationed in the North Atlantic. A 40-year Delmar resident, he was employed at the Delmar post office for 27 years before his retirement. Mr. Vandenburgh was an Adirondack woodsman and an avid fan of thoroughbred horse racing. He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Jayne (Brizzie) Vandenburgh; two sons, William H. Vandenburgh Jr. of St. Petersburg, Fla., and Herman H. Vandenburgh of Cambridge, Mass.; a daughter, Madge O'Connell of Glens Falls; two grandsons, William K. Vandenburgh of Philadelphia, Pa., and Evan T. O'Connell of Glens Falls; a sister, Dorothy Bradt-Weller of Delmar and a nephew, James Bradt of Freedom, N.H. A memorial service will be held at noon Saturday, Feb. 12, at Applebee Funeral Home, 403 Kenwood Ave., Delmar. Relatives and friends are invited to call at the funeral home after 11 a.m. Saturday. Vogel, Anna Winifred WHITEHALL and ALBANY -- Anna Winifred Vogel, 98, formerly of Thurlow Terrace Apartments, Albany and Adams Street, Whitehall, died Wednesday, Feb. 9, 2005, at Ann Lee Nursing Home, Colonie, following a brief illness. Born on May 24, 1906, in Whitehall, she was the daughter of John T. and Harriet (Jero) Mitchison. She was the widow of Francis F. Vogel, who died in September of 1958. Mrs. Vogel was a member of St. Patrick's Senior Citizens Group of Albany, where she enjoyed traveling and activities with other members of their group. She was previously employed with Champlain Spinners Silk Mill in Whitehall before moving to Albany. She was then employed with W.T. Grant and Co. in Albany until her retirement. Mrs. Vogel was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church of Whitehall. She was also predeceased by one brother, Thomas Mitchison. Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. William (Winifred E.) Palmer of Edinburg, and Mrs. Kay F. Gudz of Albany; four grandchildren: Karen A. Kilmer of Albany, Michael F. DeMizio of Clifton Park, Kevin A. (Karen) DeMizio of East Greenbush and Christine M. (Anthony) Geer of Rensselaer; and five great-grandchildren. The family will meet at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 12, at Michael G. Angiolillo Funeral Home, 210 Broadway, Whitehall, followed by a Mass of the Resurrection that will be celebrated at 11 a.m. at the Trinity Episcopal Church of Whitehall, with Father Marcus Rogers, pastor, officiating. Burial will take place in the spring at Greenmount Cemetery, Whitehall. Friends may call on Friday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Ziehm, Hanna Phoebe BUSKIRK -- Hanna Phoebe Ziehm, 96, formerly of Morris Road, died peacefully at Hoosick Falls Health Center on Thursday, Feb. 10, 2005. She was the widow of George Henry Ziehm. Born Friday, Dec. 11, 1908, in Maine, Minn., she was the daughter of Joshua L. and Zoda Chase Linne. She attended the Northfield School for Girls. Before her marriage, Phoebe worked for New York Telephone Co. She brought up her family in Albany and moved to Buskirk in 1966, when she and George bought the dairy farm that her son and grandsons still run. She lived on the farm until she moved to the Danforth Adult Care Center less than two years ago. She was at the Health Center for less than a week. Phoebe loved encouraging and supporting young people in using the library and in reading projects. She was a volunteer at the Westmere School Library in Westmere (town of Guilderland) for many years and at the Cambridge School Library for 10 years. She was also a "Grandmother Volunteer" at the Bellevue Day School in Greenwich for 13 years. She was an accomplished knitter and made latch hook rugs. Phoebe was a member of The First Unitarian Church of Albany and an active participant of the Buskirk Reformed Church. Her siblings, Milton, Albert, Charles and Wendell Linne, all died before her. Survivors include two children and their spouses, Franklin C. and Terry Ziehm of Buskirk, and Eleanor F. and Peter White of Latham; six grandchildren; and a great-grandson. A memorial celebration of Phoebe's life will be held on Sunday, Feb. 13, at 1 p.m. at South Cambridge United Methodist (due to the unfortunate closing of the Buskirk Reformed Church). The church is located on county Route 59A. The Rev. Richard Gratz will conduct the service. Her ashes will be buried with her husband at Memory's Gardens, Colonie.
